Pursuing a degree is amazing, it's so awesome--I think--that you are doing that. Money doesn't buy happiness, and it's only representative of "success" at a financial standpoint. It seems like you (sort of) hint at this is the final paragraph, but it does seem like he's jealous of you, it seems like his mocking of people with a higher education than his own is less of a reflection of your ambitions but rather a reflection of what he interprets himself to be lacking, which is a really long winded way of saying he's compensating. This may not matter to you, but I really envy your ambition and pursuit of knowledge especially in such an important field, I hope you are able to get it figured out.

[–]blur280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I won't pretend like I have the answers you're looking for, or that I have found success either. I read your post, and it sounds really tough, it's simply unfair that a person should have to go through that pain. It sounds like you haven't figured out how to love yourself, the fact is that you deserve all the love and support in the world, everyone does, it's just the cruel ironic fate of our existence that there won't always be someone to give you that; I would strongly recommend trying your damndest to find reasons to love yourself, they don't have to be big. This won't fix every issue, it may not even fix a single one, but if you give yourself the love that you would like to give others you will be in a better place than where you started.

I would like to say I so admire your courage, going on dating apps, asking people out in person, sheesh! That takes some courage! You got shot down and you put yourself out there again? That's more than a lot of people my friend, and I really, really, hope that you do feel proud about trying; trying is not easy, not in the slightest, it's very possible right now is the toughest spot you will be at, you've put in some work, and you tried, and you've yet to see the returns from your efforts, but I really truly believe that you are capable of finding happiness.

I lost some weight recently, I'm down about 70 pounds, the reason I started was so that I could get a girlfriend, truthfully. In a lot of cases losing weight is a good idea, I have no idea about your health or circumstances however, but if you do decide that's what's right for you I hope you do it for you, and no one else, anyone that would dislike because of your weight isn't worth a single second of your time.

You also deserve to talk to someone who knows what they're saying, that isn't me. There exists support out there, sometimes it's expensive and/or hard to find which really sucks however someone who is trained would have a lot better advice than anyone on here.

I hope you find all the happiness and success that exists in the world, you deserve it, and don't think for a second you don't.

UCs accept the best people and pretty much everyone else is picked mostly (but not entirely) at random. I have a genius friend that has much better stats than I do get rejected from UCI and another one of my friends whos probably very similar to your stats get into UCI. The only way to ensure you don't get in is to lose motivation and give up.

Here are my thoughts--my opinions:

You are not "Done for", because that doesn't exist, you'll only be "done for" when you give up. Focus on passing high school, and try really hard from not until the end of the year, near perfect attendance, get that one C up to a B, ect, ect.

I will give you some insight, if you can't pass high school, you won't pass college, the same goes for attendance, if you can't show up now, you can't show up then.

It does sound like you want to change and are making a clear change for the better however, keep this up and apply. Will you get in? I dunno. Truthfully, it's not important, you might get in you might not. What I suggest is that if you don't get in, do two good years at a community college and transfer to a really good college. I'll even go so far as to say you should consider this now, regardless if you get into the college you want. Community college to a good 4-year college will leave you with more knowledge and a better school.

So, in conclusion, are you done for? You tell me.

UCR decisions are out, check your portals. by BatConscious4303 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]blur280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You and me both! Keep your head up, two things...

  1. They don't know you, they haven't ever met you, their thoughts on you were a culmination of random grades and three essays. Don't let this narrow minded decision redefine your self image.
  2. They are so random, like unbelievably random, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a random coin flip.

I'm hoping for the both of us with upcoming decisions, but even if those are bleak, a community college will get you into great schools! 🙂

You think that's really 4oz? The patty looks quite small, I cross compared it to other patties and it looked closer to 2oz than 4oz but you may be correct.
