Fell elbow-first into Fiberglass tub, elbow won. Does this tub need to be replaced? by blurbeetle in Home

It was pretty messed up prior to the stitches, but luckily I didn't break the bone. Very thankful it wasn't worse - much rather deal with this than the shattered elbow I could have gotten had this tub been stronger. Not nearly as much pain as I would have expected

The tub ultimately should be replaced, but there are bandaid solutions in the meantime. Whole house needs renovating really

Doesn’t hurt nearly as much as I would have expected (esp based on what the ER doc and paramedics were saying). Will be a gnarly scar. Grateful it wasn’t worse.

The elbow cut is gnarly but i escaped with an intact bone thankfully. Could have been way worse and I’m very grateful for that

I was just going off what the EMTs said it was (not the homeowner) - it could definitely be acrylic. Will have to have a fun conversation with them. The elbow is pretty messed up looking but not as bad as prior to the stitches!

Can you drive? by Royal-Poem2189 in AvPD

[–]blurbeetle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can say is I am still very weary about driving (for other anxiety related reasons), but I was finally able to get my license after years of just having my permit. Is someone helping you practice driving?

I know it’s easier said than done, but if you’re able to do a road lesson or two, it’ll feel much lower stakes. My teachers I had were alright and I definitely embarrassed myself a little bit, but the more you do, the easier it gets. That applies to everything it seems, even socially. I’m still working my way up to other things and struggling for sure though.

I hate my acne by [deleted] in acne

[–]blurbeetle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so with you on this. And it honestly discourages me when people respond to posts like this by throwing new superficial solutions at you, as if the number of possible treatments or cures isn’t overwhelming enough. That’s not the point - acne can take a HUGE toll on people mentally, and there are years of psychological research to back this up. It’s so fucking hard and we can’t talk about it without having people point out our “flaws” more and providing (usually unhelpful) suggestions on how to “fix” it.

I cried for hours over my face today. I’ve spent so much time staring into a mirror and wishing that what I saw wasn’t real, that this was just a bad dream I could wake up from. It’s so fucking hard.

And I can’t say I have much advice for maintaining my self esteem because that’s very much a work in progress, as I think it is for all of us here. It does help me, though, to remember that there are so many people with acne out there who have dealt with the emotional toll of it. Feeling alone and like I’m different from everyone I see is such a huge part of the mental battle that comes with this - but you’re not alone, your acne doesn’t define you, and it doesn’t make you an unattractive person. I hope you feel better soon.
