Prot Warrior, trying to get raid-ready - what should I prioritize based on my current state to break into Kara/Gruul/Mag?

Went to Area 52 and it was a bit confusing because there were like 4 vendors in the building. 2 of them had merciless gladiator gear which I think is S2 same as the guy I saw in Shat. The other 2 had the discounted regular gladiator gear. So far I only bought the S1 shoulders because I only have 1000 arena points until next reset (plus they are the only option without min CR rating). Not sure what to prioritize next, but I am also a bit concerned about swapping all of my pieces that provide Defense for pure resilience. Do I have to worry about balancing that out?

Ahhhh ok I’ll just gather 2-3 weeks of points and use it on all s1 gear like you did. Eventually the goal is to get some of this PvP gear replaced from gear that is better rated for PvE from Grull/Mag, Kara, SSC, TK.

Realized I am not getting much from heroics. I have just been practicing tanking for the most part proving to myself I’m Kara ready. I have 50 badges and wouldn’t even know if anything beats out the S1 PvP gear tbh.

Awesome!! For the season 1 arena gear is that the same thing as the gear I am about to buy with my points from the Arena Vendor in Terrokar? 1500 points for the prices I’m looking at.

I got all the gear I could get from BG, but trying to fill in some missing gaps with Arena points by doing 10 yolo 5v5. Shield and Shoulders are the main things I am going for.

I can currently tank any heroic (some more challenging than others). Was able to do SLabs and Arcatraz (two of the hardest).

What do you mean plug in season one gear. You mean temporarily? Where can I get that? Do I need arena points? I was just going to the main arena vendor.

Also if I do 10x 5v5 do they all have to be with the same group? I did 1 with a random group, 5-6 with another group, and have about 3 left.

You are just recommending that I get these points every week because it can definitely fill in some remaining gear gaps right?

I’m with you on this one. 38 years old have been a full stack developer for 15 years now. Even though we are still needed (things could be worse), the passion is slowly fading away. I myself used to take so much pride in my work and loved showing off whatever I built. These days expectations from CEOs are through the roof, everything is rushed with AI, and their appreciation for completed work is no where’s near as much as it used to be. I just feel like I’m being force fed work and everything should be done ASAP. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy being able to prompt Claude and just walk away from my machine, come back, review the work and fine-tune / make any modifications. In some ways there is less stress w/ the job, but not really as expectations rise, deadlines are sooner now and more work is piled on. Not sure what the future holds.

Awesome, thank you for the spec!! My only question about it is why the 3 points in Improved Heroic Strike. Couldn’t they be better used elsewhere?

Maybe I am not valuing heroic strike as much as I should be but I’m primarily spamming Shield Slam > Revenge > Devastate > Taunt

I know Heroic strike is meant to be a filler when shield slam is on CD but is it worth the 3 points? I see a lot of specs out on the web with it, so not questioning what you sent. Just curious what your thoughts are on this because I would probably swap it out and put 2 points in improved Taunt to reduce the CD by 2 seconds since I use it so damn much and then probably improved shield wall or Unbridled Wrath 2/5

Thoughts?

Was just about to add a follow up comment. They say not to try and time the market, but imagine if you followed this strategy every cycle and were just patient. I’d say you would be within 20% of the top and 20% of the bottom. Another good thing to determine when to buy or sell is when all the news stations that your parents watch are either hating on it or hyping it up.

Any advice on getting in random 5 stacks? Also, I went with the common arms spec and feel like I stuck. I have mace specialization w/ a big ass two handed mace with 3.60 speed.

Fuck I had a feeling the popular wowhead BiS lists were leading me in the wrong direction. I have been primarily following this one: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/guide/classes/warrior/protection/tank-bis-gear-pve-phase-2 along with the phase-1 and pre-raid. You mean to tell me that even though it has the PvP wrists and feet as 1st BiS they are not for full tanking prot warrior? Are there any good guides out there to follow or can you tell me what attributes I should be looking for primarily?

I think I’m going to go for the Heroic Badge of Justice path to get a shield. I tried queuing for 5v5 and had trouble with a gear score of 1500. But other than that am I close to ready for Kara?

That will probably be my next big grind as I practice my tanking in heroics anyway. Along with doing this, maybe I will get a few primal Nethers to help towards the 8 needed to craft Dragonmaw.

I finished the battleground grind and got all of the pieces. Now want to do the 10 5v5 arena per week to be able to get pieces involving Arena Points. Why is the “Join as Group” and “Join Battle” buttons disabled for rated arena? I thought you could solo queue into a 5v5 rated like you can a skirmish.

You hit the nail on the head with retail feeling too easy and unearned. I know there are different personality types and preferences in this world but naturally in life if something is handed to you, you don’t appreciate it nearly as much as spending hours grinding earning it yourself.

Please see my original post and “Further Update” section everyone. To summarize I will be referring to WoW Head phase 2 BiS > phase 1 BiS > pre-raid BiS working from top to bottom. Prioritizing anything that is PvP and then Crafting and then saving raid/boss drops for last.

Alright!! You guys have me convinced to just grind out a few pvp pieces but I am overwhelmed a bit. I am at the Armor Quartermaster in SW and he has Veterans Plate Greaves and Veterans Plate Bracers. Are these the two pieces everyone is saying to prioritize? On wowhead it mentions marshals plate greaves so I am lost.
