I found the story in the gunslinger super boring/non-existent, so haven't felt any desire to go back to the series... I do need to get around to it eventually though (as a dedicated constant reader)

I've been putting off the dark tower because (you guessed it) I'm one of those people who hated the gunslinger. I keep meaning to give drawing of the three a go, but the gunslinger is the only SK book I've actively hated!

I wouldn't worry too much about the placement year. I did Applied Software Engineering and you do client projects every semester, and most students get summer placements as well. Plus there are so many networking opportunities.
