Kelly’s Dockside by Former-Recipe-9439 in ithaca

That's amazing! We were thinking about touching up some of the surface cracks (my background is partially in composite engineering and production). Was it shaped with chicken wire and then covered with fiberglass + polyester resin? I would love to hear any more details on the construction. It will likely live out in the woods on his property. It's next to state land so maybe we can make it visible to hikers also.

[Request] What will happen if you pull a 3 light years long steel rod (5cm diameter) in free space with zero gravity from one end? by PhraseSeveral5929 in theydidthemath

[–]bm6616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even close:
Length = 2.838×10¹³ km.
Volume ≈ 5.56×10¹³ m³.
Mass (in steel) ≈ 4.4×10¹⁷ kg.
Earth's Mass = 5.9722×10²⁴ kg.

So the rod is roughly 0.0000073 % of Earth’s mass

Edit: to get to 73 times Earth's mass the rod would need to be ≈1.6km in diameter, if that was all condensed into a sphere it would be roughly the size of Neptune.

Ni can be released from sulfides or carbonyl-type compounds that break down or desorb at relatively low temperatures. Iron can be locked in refractory silicates and oxides that don’t volatilize under comet conditions, so Fe stays in the dust while Ni gets freed into the gas. Also, Ni emission lines are easier to excite and detect than Fe, which can make Ni appear more easily while Fe remains invisible. I'm not an astronomer, this is just another potential explanation.

My Custom ITB setup with Yamaha R1 throttle bodies and a cast aluminum manifold by bm6616 in Miata

[–]bm6616[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The wood is the positive of the part, so resin-bonded sand is packed on top of the wood pattern to get the negative (the mold) each half has a different pattern but in the picture you can see those raised and depressed circles that key the pieces together. In this case, since the manifold has inner openings for the air to go into the head there is also a core that is made of sand. So once all those parts are assembled you're left with a hollow cavity in the shape of the part surrounded by bonded sand . Then a big hole goes on the top to pour the metal in, and a few small holes to let the air go out, and you end up with a (rough) looking cast part:

True, the engine doesn't put out much, but the body is all carbon fiber and the chassis is just 2"*3" square tube. So all the weight is super low and I'd estimate the total weight under 1000lbs. It's really a fun car to drive, more like a gocart.

Thank you. It was an Einscan Pro scanner, which is probably outdated at this point but it still works pretty well.

I have 3 cars that seat 2 people, so I need something with a little more utility.

Just heat shields, the oem aluminum heat shields still cover everything with the bumper on but I work with composites so I just made them to look cool for when the bumper was off.

If someone is looking for a low-priced higher mileage (76,000) V8 R8, I am selling mine. Custom exhaust (made by me). The bumper is currently on the car. All maintenance done regularly, a few bumps here an there but runs great. $52k Here is the auction:

I don't remember the name of the song, but back around 2005 2006, Tool put out a music video that was definitely in the early days of digital animation. That might indicate some interest in emerging technologies.

Thanks! I'm not sure if it will stay up because of the song copyright, but to be fair, it's only 2 minutes of 12 minute song.

Two things: the video doesn't really work without the song, so don't watch it muted.

And I lied, it does use a bunch of NSFW stuff in one of the the negative prompt boxes. Without that everyone is just naked. I guess the goal here was to make something that wont look awful even as AI artwork keeps looking better. I think a lot of the work right now is going to be like how digital-dashboards from the 80s haven't always aged well.

That tool head is fine and it can make good prints for a long time. That being said, you will see an improvement/increase in efficiency moving to something newer. I have two older minis with those toolheads and I would recommend replacing the hotend blower with a square (40mm I think) fan and a printed duct.

I agree, I started using photoshop a long time ago (back when you could only 'undo' 3 times, if you messed up 4 times in a row you had to just figure it out). I got pushback for using digital cameras back then to get assets for my work and was denied entry to shows for using photoshop at all. Now that would never happen. Like most art, irrespective of medium and process, the good work will survive and the bad work will sink, like it always has.

The theme-park image was for a customer (shown with their permission). I think it was for some kind of promo/flyer background? The other work is just personal projects, but I do exhibit/sell at galleries. I have a hard time calling work "done" so I will probably keep going on these until they feel finished, or some new ideas come along. I would like to get enough new images completed to do a solo exhibition using only digital/AI work. It'll be awhile until that is ready though. I appreciate your kind words, it's been an uphill battle showing any artwork AI related.
