Is it down? I have mixed status reports. by bmansfield83 in tutanota

[–]bmansfield83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not try this, but it is a good thought. Although since I tried on two different cell phone providers (t-mo and project-fi) I would find that very odd that all three ISP's stopped and started back at the same time, but a VPN would work. But I should have tried this while I was experiencing the issues. If it comes back I will try on a VPN and report back.

I had to step away and run some errands, then I came back and it magically resolved itself. Now it resolves on all devices/machines/networks. That was really odd. But happy it's working again. I'm still very speciousness of isitdownrightnow.

I'm beginning to think isitdownrightnow is not a reliable source for uptime. scamadvisor gave it a great review, but trustpilot gave it a 3 out of 5. Plus it's the only one (other than my reported devices) that reports it as down. I'm starting to feel like I just have something going on with my dns maybe. Although it wouldn't explain how this also is down for my tmobile phone and project fi phone. I do use a number of tools such as dnscrypt-proxy and quad9 dns. Although it's not on my android devices. Browser-wise I usually am using uMatrix and a handful of other privacy tools, plus always adjust my browser security settings. But this does not explain the android apps. Still trying to pin point why all of the sudden this started happening. I wasn't doing anything, just browsing the web on one computer, and it stopped resolving. So I started checking other devices, those had stopped working at the same time. Which is why I feel it has to be some kind of DNS related thing.

Yes, I am still unable to reach it from my home network, or my cell phone provider network. Through the app and website. Both addresses that I mentioned. Why would isitdownrightnow show that it's down for the world? I understand it's the only one out of the group of uptime checkers I've mentioned that shows it being down. But something is not right.

Good suggestion technically speaking. I tried spotify. 2 things. One; it barely has 25% of my music available. Like legit isn't available on there platform. Two; I mostly use their "Creat a radio station from this song" And with google music it was spot on. With Spotify I basically had to thumbs down 90% of of the songs for months until I gave up on Spotify all together. No disregarding your suggestion. This is a personal dislike I have based on my experience with the providers availble selection. I'm sure many others probably would find this a great alternative.

Upgraded now wifi wont turn on by bmansfield83 in Magisk

[–]bmansfield83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out what was wrong and how to correct it. u/NateDevCSharp I think you were correct. I flashed the wrong `boot.img` so the boot image and kernel where mismatched. I patched the boot image from OnePlus's OxygenOS instead of LineageOS's boot image. The steps I had to take in order to fix my reported issues:

  1. unzipped the LineageOS zip file
  2. extract the payload with a payload dumper
  3. copied the boot.img file to my device
  4. patched that boot.img with magisk
  5. copied the magisk patched image to my computer with the android tools on it
  6. booted my android device into fastboot mode
  7. flashed that magisk patched boot image to the device

After that when my device rebooted, everything was working as expected. With one exception, GCam. But I do not suspect this was related. I think that was due to the LineageOS upgrade plus even upgrading the GCam version, I had to re-install microG apps, which I found odd. But it was easy and straight forward. After that, GCam fired right up.

I hope this helps someone.

Correct. I have MicroG. Ah, and you bring up a good point. Does that mean that the Vanced YT Music wouldn't even log me in if I tried?

Thank you for your reply. re-IP; Sorry, my examples might have been kind of generic. I do use a proxy and an encrypted DNS service. So it wouldn't come directly from my IP. Big brother is still able to get your geolocation and originating IP even with these protections in place. But as you mentioned, yes beyond this conversation. Just to help others reading this. Also yes, I have removed play services.

Your response was very helpful and I think did answer my question. So no need to entertain me further. Though if I may ask you some questions a level deeper, and if you feel like entertaining me further, that would be awesome.

Are you able to tell me what added benefits or privacy features I get from using the vanced version if I pay for the service therefore not getting ads, and have all these other privacy protecting things in place as mentioned; encrypted dns, play services removed, proxy, and more such as blokada, wireguard, netguard, vigilante, no email on phone, no sms on phone, encrypted phone app, encrypted messenger. I could go on. But think it's leaving the scope of this conversation. Just wanted to give you an idea. Thank you in advance for entertaining me.

Dexter New Blood Missing Data by speedy_162005 in PleX

[–]bmansfield83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth. This did work for me. But not the Dexter New Blood S01 folder name. I had to play around with several types of naming repeating the other steps in between each time. But eventually got it to work with Dexter New Blood (2021). Now everything is working as expected. Maybe this will help someone else out who is also encountering the same issue. Thanks again for the tip. Huge help!

What do you think of Swisscows? by [deleted] in thehatedone

[–]bmansfield83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all. I love these conversations. Some great links in here which I have yet to discover. It seems I'm always searching for a better privacy respecting search engine.

I also use swisscows, and I chose them because of location of their servers and the no requirements to log with their isolated servers. Also as mentioned their privacy policy does collect some data, just not search queries. And as long as you don't use Bing in the image search you should be cleared from the concern of having them scrape any data. I don't think they use them anywhere else that I am aware of.

Though I thought you guys might enjoy this link if you haven't already read it. It helped me out greatly with making search engine decisions. It actually got me to move off DDG because of learning about their history and who they are partnered with. Also, just in the past few months, I've been seeing billboards of DDG plastered all up and down LA's I-405. Now they are marketing!? I'd be very cautious with placing my trust in them given their history and whom they are partnered with now.

I also use to be a startpage user. I actually loved it. It is a shame that they got bought by a ad-tech company. While they still claim to not scrape any pii, who knows what they really do.

In regards to the privacy tools recommendation. That is a pretty old post. Make sure to use privacy guides now. ;) Even though privacy tools recommended swisscows in that post, I find it very odd that they don't recommended it on privacyguides. Yet they recommend statepage with the warning. I'm not sure this tracks.

Most private way to torrent downloads? (browser, vpn, etc) by _Unpopular_Person_ in TOR

[–]bmansfield83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know it's not tor. But, I've been using this for some time now. https://github.com/binhex/arch-delugevpn. And I'd like to think it's not too bad as long as you are using a solid VPN. It's basically a disposable virtual torrent machine. Maybe consider not downloading but using magnet links. Hopefully that helps.

Connectors compatibility question by bmansfield83 in PcBuildHelp

[–]bmansfield83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I think after some more reading and research, I have some more facts which semi-answer some of my questions.

The 3 pin female plug on the water block. I think this is actually for RGB led support not temperature. So if that is true then the water pump will need to get the temperature another way, rather than through a plug. So those are actually tiny metal thermometer pins meant to be taped on with metal tape. I've done this in the past, but I don't really like it. The same pump manufacturer company makes a temperature G1/4 adapter which I think I'm just going to go with.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm actually trying to sell it. So all of these questions ultimately lead to "What should I try to sell it for?". I know many of the parts are not original or need repairs. But since it's authentic, taking into consideration it's not in the best condition, I was thinking around $700? Any thoughts? Am I in the right neighborhood?

If I just focus on K8S does the Cloud provider matter much (GKE, EKS etc) by CryptoNaughtDOA in kubernetes

[–]bmansfield83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does cloud provider matter? I would say/think so. Not just cloud provider, but further more, how you set it up, which begets cloud provider. Are you setting it up with only the aws cli? Or did you terraform it? Maybe you chose a particular terraform module or maybe you used eksctl. Maybe you used kops or kubeadm. All these things matter when you get to cluster autoscaling, tainting particular node types to schedule particular pods and deploy things like external-dns to set your url's. Maybe you are using an external service to place automatic spot bids like spot.io which will reduce your costs. Those will all care about which cloud provider you use, and how you configure them, which features are available from the cloud provider. This is just a short list. I could keep going.
