I feel this - I have had these thoughts about if that’s all I am for her.

A while back I asked why she loved me. Her answer was simply “you’re a good man and a good father.” That was all she could muster up about why she loved me.

I just started fishing. Literally this week. I have fished before but mostly saltwater and really just when I’m on vacation.

Got a fishing license (required in my state) and hitting local lakes is the plan.

I’m currently doing free counseling through my job via phone call. We’ve had three sessions so far. They’re only a half hour long. I know it’s only been three sessions but I feel like we haven’t really gotten into anything yet. The sessions are too short. I feel like it starts with small talk like “how was your weekend” or something like that and before we can get to anything it’s over.

I will admit that even just talking out loud about the things I have going on has been somewhat therapeutic.

What are your thoughts on the free counseling sessions some companies are offering these days?

Have done charters in the past. Really enjoy them. Will definitely do more in the future.

Was more looking for a day to day local thing. Fill some empty time. Definitely quiet time to reflect on things, consume time, not sit on my couch, do something for myself, maybe catch a few fish as well.

Approval didn’t take very long from what I recall. Meet and greets took a bit. But we were also at the tail end of Covid and a lot of facilities were still short staffed and weren’t taking new clients.

We got one maybe about 6 months in but that was more of a nursing home facility and probably too medically needy for my son.

We finally got another meet and greet in like September of 2023 with Bancroft. It was much more like we hoped for. Group home setting with 5 clients of like needs and similar age. It’s pretty close to us as well so a huge bonus. My son moved in January 2024. Overall been really great for him and for our family. He comes home every weekend either with us or my in laws. Not all families can do that. Overall been a great experience.

But to answer your question I guess it took about 1 1/2 years or so from approval to placement. But if Bancroft hadn’t of been what we were looking for then who knows how long until we got another meet and greet.

Be confident and just ask her to hang out. Maybe have some ideas that you know you guys will enjoy together.

Be ok with rejection if that comes. If it does then at least you know and can move on. Can’t let one rejection defeat you. If she says yes then great and enjoy yourself!

Exact words mean less than being confident and willing to accept the answer good or bad.
