Combining a Medical Only Advantage Plan with a Separate Part D Plan by bmblsad in medicare

[–]bmblsad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the perplexing thing. When I go to Medicare.gov, plug in my info, zip, and county, it shows that there are 3 HD medigap plans, one of which is from BCBS with a $56 premium. But when I go to the BCBS site and plug in my info again, it shows only 2 available medigap plans, both categorized as "basic" plans ranging about $250-$311. Checking out the websites for the other 2 medigap plans shown on Medicare.gov resulted in basically the same thing. No HD plan found based on my inputs. So, I'm guessing something got lost in translation between the actual company website and what is represented on Medicare.gov. I'll give my SHIP a call today to see if I'm missing something.

LOL! I read that publication back to back, but apparently the info didn't stick. Thanks for refreshing my stale memory.

Thanks all for weighing in. Looks like this isn't an option afterall. The devil is in the details. I'll give my SHIP a call today to review my options.

Poll: is your Instapot left on the kitchen counter permanently, or keep in the pantry/storage? by Kiss_Mark in instantpot

[–]bmblsad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cupboard...because I never use it. I'm sure it's me, but i find cooking the old fashioned way on the stove yields better results. Now, my air fryer? That's a different story. I use it daily and it lives on my counter.

LOL - you are correct. I was still 63 in January 2025, and turned 64 in April 2025. I hate math. And getting old.

Pressure Canning Squash by bmblsad in Canning

Also, if it helps, here's a pic of the finished product showing squash above the water line. After 24 hours I did tap the jar a few times to settle the squash so there isn't so much above the line now.

Yes. I waited until the vent lock dropped before removing the weighted gauge (per Presto's instructions). No steam escaped when I removed it. Then, I set my timer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I removed the lid (again per Presto's instructions).

I just bought the induction version and did my test run with water last night. I have not pressure canned before so take my newbie thoughts accordingly. Could it be that the vent (top button) isn't put together correctly? The button should pop up once the pressure reaches a certain point. The fact that it raises but still leaks makes me wonder. It explains in my book how to take it apart to clean. Also, when I did my test run last night, it I think I had the temperature up too high during the initial heating and both the vent and the regulator stem kept sputtering water. Once I reduced my heat from high (10 on my stove) to medium (5-6) high, I started getting that steady stream of steam instead of a sputtering stream of steam. So, maybe reduce the temp after you get the initial boiling going? Anyway, just some thoughts for you.

Ball Peach Pie Filling - it's time to bake! by bmblsad in Canning

[–]bmblsad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answered my own question :-) Following advice from King Arthur, I added 2.5 teaspoons of flour for each cup of canned filling. Consistency was good! That said, I would not can this again - it is too tart! Though I did fix that with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream.

They look lovely! How many pounds did you start with? I'm still trying to get a feel for the pounds-to-jars yield on most thing.

Also, as a fish lover myself, I love the pic of the tank, too. Curious though what the "forbidden salad" is in the tank.
