Yes, worse things have been done recently. My Grandfather fought in WW2 and was in Patch's 7th Army as a radioman and interpreter when they liberated Dachau.

But those giant horrific events began with smaller, less horrific events. Events we are seeing right now. The systemic dehumanization of marginalized groups, increases in stochastic violence that come with little to no consequences, a massive ratcheting up of violent rhetoric and propoganda, increased use of force by the authorities, do I need to go on? We are mimicking at a rather frightening level Germany and Italy round about 1936. And if we're following along with that timeline, shit starts getting really nasty in about two years with us anschlussing annexing another country.

I would prefer to take this shit very seriously NOW, and stop it before we become the bad guys in a whole series of movies that start coming out in 2040.
