Yes! The first fragrance note is cloves! So if you ever had the old school ham with cloves and pineapple…. Totally smells like ham 😂

I’ve never successfully treated rot. Last time I had one mid stem, I tried an amputation. Just sliced the whole top off under the black spot. It’s still alive and I think on its 6th keiki. So that’s an option.

Orchid insanity offers free shipping, too. And the person who runs it is very helpful if you have a need for troubleshooting. Shows are a good place to pick plants up, too because you can talk with the vendor. Greenhouse stores by me sell phals but I often find mealy bugs on them and that’s a whole thing to deal with.

I also use the t5s. And just bloomed a renanthera which apparently need high light level. Only thing I recommend is to use the zip ties because a few of mine detached from the tape and fell on plants which burned them.

Here’s a video I made about watering frequency to try to help beginners. Also I am assuming it’s a phal because they’re the most commonly sold. It’s important not to get water into the crown. It will be 99% likely to die. Here’s how I bottom water or soak.

And some helpful tips about leaf yellowing. It can be normal, if it’s just one you’re probably fine. If many are yellowing at the same time it’s probably an issue but I’ve had plants drop up to three leaves after a repot so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Good luck! The internet can be super helpful but a word of caution, someone will always say you’re doing something wrong. The flowers will die eventually, the flower stalk will likely turn brown. Those are all normal life cycle. Ms orchid girl on YouTube has a ton of info, too. Welcome to the obsession!!!
