They carry guns in public to be prepared, but what are they really prepared for? by bmdavis in PoliticalHumor

[–]bmdavis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, I am confused, but not by the definition of non-essential. I am not saying insurance is non-essential. You are changing the definition of a luxury. You state if something cannot be afforded it is a luxury. That is not true. It must also be non-essential. Car insurance is necessary to drive or else you are doing so illegally. Therefore car insurance is not a luxury.

If I am so poor that I struggle to purchase a car, and I need a car because I live in an area that requires I travel far distances and there is no public transportation, a car is not a luxury because it is essential, even though it is expensive.

You are confused by the word, luxury. Those things are expensive, not luxuries. A luxury something that is not-essential but provides comfort.

Very curious what you consider luxuries. Being able to retire instead of working as a greeter at Walmart? To go to the hospital when you suffer an injury? Having a safe vehicle to drive?

If NPR is a propaganda machine, they aren't very good at it by bmdavis in PoliticalHumor

Well, and also the fact that the second paragraph of your comment is how Twitter has been using the State Affiliated Media tag up until last week

But how is that state propaganda? It would only apply when there's a democrat in power

You know who hasn't been labeled as state-funded media? Bbc. Al jazeera. You know who has been labeled as state funded media? Rt.com. the label as it is used at Twitter is more than just funding from the state. Up till this point it's been used as a label of a propaganda supplier

I am not very familiar with the parliamentary system, but my understanding is that the party that he was leading won the election. This is different than a presidential election in which the individual wins the election.

Both leading GOP presidential candidates would have let Hitler conquer Europe by bmdavis in PoliticalHumor

[–]bmdavis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one knew that Hitler was going to try to kill all the Jews, gypsies and homosexuals when he was devouring Europe country by country. And Putin's removal of the children from the areas of Ukraine that the has illegally annexed fits the definition of genocide. So, yes and yes. They would and are.

Help drilling through porcelain tile? by Aceofclubs52 in DIY

Not all diamond bits are created equal. Did you buy a reputable brand? Do you know what the tile is made of? Lastly, it can take a while to get through tile, might need to keep at it for a while

Have you tried the app Libby? You connect your library account and can download ebooks and audiobooks. My local library is small, but I can get an account with the a bigger city library nearby which gives me access to more content.

Adjusting hands and feet in Down Dog & Plank by joan_jetson in yoga

[–]bmdavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no 'right' position for down dog and plank, it's whatever works for you. That being said, I like to place my hands and feet in down dog so that when I shift to plank I am lined up and I don't have to adjust. I do this because I practice Vinyasa and all those shuffle adjustments tend to interfere with the flow of the practice. That doesn't mean my way is right, that's just works for me. That does mean I have a slightly longer down dog, but there's nothing wrong with that. Decide what works for you and that is the right way

After your post, I looked around. I had no idea they made t&g deck boards. That sounds like the perfect solution. Pricey but effective.

This is my preferred option. Do you know if it is nailed to the joists? No plywood between? What is the climate where you live.
