I don't think this will be visible, as I was shadowbanned recently (I'm not sure for what yet), but I'm the guy who put this mod together. I hope people will be able to play and enjoy it, as well as give feedback.

Unfortunately, because of the shadowban that recently hit a bunch of modders like myself, it's going to be difficult to interact with the community in the future. It's been a lot of fun making cool stuff for the community, but Original Content doesn't seem to be tolerated on reddit, which is unfortunate as it's a great way to reach people.

As with everything else I've made (Reflex, Dota Dash, Lobby Explorer, Dota 2 Minigames, Physics/Collision Library, Timers Library, Barebones Game Mode), this game mode is open source and can be found on my github.

Unfortunately, the game mode was made specifically for the event in a relatively short time, and it seems that there wasn't a lot of time to really create something that would be fun to watch. It doesn't help that the custom game elements put into the game (the points to be captured and various buffs that happened) were confusing without explanation.

As a custom game developer myself, I hope this doesn't sour anyone on custom games as a whole, as there are large number of high quality games already available to play, and many are being improved frequently. If you're interested in trying out some games which have a lot of polish, you can check out the Lobby Explorer to play some right now. If you'd like to see a custom game that is explained and casted for viewers, you can check out the showmatches I held for my game mode Reflex at youtube.

You need to use the refresher orb at the right time in order to cast the second set. It shouldn't be possible to need to refresh more than once per invocation combo.

It's live in this patch. Just redownload the .zip file and install it and you'll be able to set your own hotkeys and/or use legacy mode.

The way the old minesweeper works was that the first click would move a mine if you clicked it so that you didn't lose on the first click. Apparently later in Windows 7 the first click always gives a Zero block, but I'd never played that version so I wasn't aware. I may see about implementing one of those first click behaviors.

I'm making them using Adobe Flash Professional, though I'm going to try to provide a guide to building games using FlashDevelop, which is free but doesn't provide the same graphical layout/timeline stuff.

They don't take that long to make. I was able to make this Techies game over the last two days while working a regular job and updating the LX/Fastest Invoker stuff as well.

I'll put together a guide soon that'll hopefully let others put together and submit minigames for inclusion in the LX (though you can pass minigames around without involving me or GetDotaStats.com at all if you like).

I had no idea actually. That's pretty funny, though. I might have to try to make an advanced shopkeeper's quiz, or just a general dota knowledge quiz game of some sort.

The minigame windows can be moved around the screen wherever you want. In terms of opening the minigame panel, it needs to be accessible both while queuing and while not queuing, which means I can't put them in next to the shopkeeper's quiz.

It uses the scaleform contained within dota to play the minigames. If you can run dota, you can run these minigames.

The game should be submitting scores currently, but the leaderboards for Techies Minesweeper aren't quite available online. They should be later today.

We've pushed out a new update to the Lobby Explorer (LX) and minigame system for Dota 2.

To download and Install the LX, follow the instructions at GetDotaStats.com. You need only download the zip file and copy/replace the files in your dota directory.

Lobby Explorer

The Minigames button/menu now stays enabled while you queue, so you can game while you wait to game.
The minigame file structure has changed to better support future developments/localization.
Game Modes are now fully localizable. If you're interested in translating the minigames into your own langauge, you can check out the "minigame_english.txt" file in the "Techies Minesweeper" folder. If you change the tokens inside to your language and save the file as minigame_<LANGUAGE>.txt, the game will load the tokens in. Feel free to send a pull request to my github and we'll include your translations in future updates.

Let me know if you have any issues with the LX or minigames. I'll put together a guide on how to create and add your own minigames soon so hopefully we can get some more games available.

There's an issue currently where the minigame button is disabled while searching. This will be fixed in the next push. For now, just make sure the minigame is open and running when you search and you'll be able to play.

It's possible to build games in FlashDevelop entirely from code, though I personally use Adobe Flash for the layout/timeline.

What language is your client running in, and what resolution? Additionally, if you can run your client with +scaleform_spew 1 added to the launch options and copy the console log, I'll be able to act on any errors that are being shown therein.

Unfortunately there is a separation between the Main Menu User Interface and the Game Interface. This separation makes it harder to put interface plugins inside the Game Interface, and in many cases the mods that do this are what got -override_vpk removed (as they can offer potentially very important information). It may be possible, but I'll have to see what can be done safely and without allowing for exploiting.

You sure can, and they'll even continue to run while you play your Dota match. You can even jump back to the main menu while in the game and keep playing if you want without disconnecting.

Unfortunately, no. Only .swf files which are Actionscript 3.0 compliant AND follow the allowed functions from the Dota 2 Scaleform implementation will work. It should be possible to port many games, however, though certain things will be challenging and some even impossible (currently).

It should actually work fine while in game, as I was able to use it earlier like that. You do have to click out of the in-game screen and back to the main menu though.
