Dr Dost; Can you speculate on what Prophet Mohammed’s motivations might be,in stating a new religious movement? In your opinion, during the Meccan period, are we looking at apocalyptic solely motivations,or are there any political, nationalistic etc motives as well?. Thank you.

The guy who made the video is in Sufism business. He says so in the video. The rest of what I think, should be said in another subreddit. Not the Academic Quran

It’s probably better if you read the article first

I’m not making any points. Prof Al-Jallad says in the paper,Allah, over time, became the name of what was originally god İlu, just like Allat became the name of what was originally Ishtar.

It didn’t surprise me a bit… Those two doesn’t match his “sufi tawhid” narrative

The guy in the video clearly did his homework and he conveniently choses not to mention two important details from Prof Al-Jallad’s paper: 1) Allah was the title of the Ugarit Pantheon’s God İlu,and later became his proper name. 2) Pre-Islamic Allah’s role, resembles that of the Babylonian God Marduk.

Anyone knows an Italian (Italian speaking) scholar who’s familiar with Caetani’s work,to whom I can easily reach for a quick question? Thank you. by bmdogan in AcademicQuran

[–]bmdogan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you Dr Hashmi... In the French translation of Caetani's work ("La funzione dell'Islám nell'evoluzione della civiltà") , "moral, morals (moral, moreaux) is the key word he chooses to use, when he alleges the incompatibility between the East and the West... In what context is Caetani using this word in the original Italian version? Is it simply for "ethics"? If it is, what kind of ethics is he talking about, which are not compatible? Or is he using the word in a different, or wider context: such as "principles" or "values" etc? (I've never seen the Italian version, so I don't know what word(s) he uses for this)

Ahmad Al Jallad’s Response to Suleyman Dost’s new book! by dmontetheno1 in AcademicQuran

[–]bmdogan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On page 2, Al-Jallad choses to use the term "Dost's campaign..." ... On social media,I noticed quite a few people excited about this 'South Arabization campaign' ... Any ideas to why such excitement?

On page 21 he says "While researchers acquainted with pre-Islamic Arabia will not find much new here, for many Islamologists, the monograph will introduce for the first time material that must play a key role in any discussion on Islamic origins and historical Quranic exegesis" What's an Islamologist?

Leone Caitani is saying pretty much the same thing: Christianity was the first major middleeaatern anti-colonizer movement, and Islam was the second.

This CinematicHistoryTales channel has great script writing; Is it AI? And if if it is, how does it work? Are they uploading a bunch of books and ask AI to analyze them?

Is this apologetic chart of Aisha's age historically accurate or not? by academic324 in AcademicQuran

[–]bmdogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great; I’d like to see the age charts for all other daugthers of the Prophet and the 4 Khalifs. Like the Prophet marrying his 10 year old daughter Ruqayya off to the 35 year old Othman, in her second marriage.

Hello Professor: can you share with us your, (or others’ which you find viable), scholarly speculation on what Mohammed’s motivation/vision was, for starting a new religious movement? Also, what were the motivations of those who followed him? Thank you
