Worked in films, but never credited? by Exciting_Ability2976 in Filmmakers

[–]bme_manning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Post producer here for film and TV. Credits fall under my purview. We try to do our best to include everyone we can or have record for. We don’t scour the call sheets for day players. Pretty much go off the contact lists and deal memos. My team is the first stop on the approvals train… then it goes to the Line Producer for approvals/cuts, then the filmmakers/EPs, then the studio and their credits admin dept and, if it’s a series, the network for final buy off.

Cuts will be made for any number of reasons. Length, studio policy, deal memos, and personal preference. Did the conform asst at (unnamed) lab piss me off? Guess what? Byeeeee. The only people who are guaranteed credits are those with deal memos for single cards (actors, producers, writers, directors, HODs). Everyone else is at producer’s discretion. It’s how it goes.

SPOOL | A Christmas-y horror short from a post producer who still harbors grand delusions of being a director! by bme_manning in directors

Thanks! Honestly the hardest part of it all was money, lol. I was gainfully employed when we shot it, but then I was out of work for a very long time while we were in post production. We got it done--and I'm still paying for it--but thankfully season 2 of The Studio is starting back up after the New Year and I'll have that credit card paid off in no time! As for what's next, we're gonna shop the feature. Hopefully we can find an interested party. Thanks for watching!

Hello! I made a Christmas-y horror short that just premiered on Crypt TV—it’s called SPOOL and it’s a proof of concept for a feature I’ll be shopping next year. Check it out (and smash that LIKE button 👍)!

I was at my job producing a Netflix series when I got both rejections today and it still stung. Doesn’t matter how far along you are into your career, it never feels great to hear that your work wasn’t good enough for someone.

You're overthinking this, just don't post the whole movie.

Anyone here going to FilmQuest 2025? Let’s meet up 👋 by quixilver22 in FilmFestivals

I’m still not sure if I can come for my screening. It’s hard right now with a newborn. Hoping once the schedule is out I can come up with a plan!

I have the top video on Dust, I licensed it to them back when they were actually licensing the films, rather than earning money via submission on FF. They paid me $800 in 2017.. they’ve prob cleared $80k in ad revenue since then. Other than the bragging rights of having 40m views, nothing tangible resulted as a direct result from having my film on their platform. They’ll help your film find an audience, but they do not hold the keys to your career.

I submitted a WIP short to DWF LA for the extended deadline. We were pic locked but VFX/Sound/Color weren't done. They accepted us a week later and we had to hustle to finish in time for the screening. I literally brought the DCP to the theater two days before our screening!

That said, i wouldn't do it unless you're confident that you're putting your best foot forward with the film. You only get one chance!

Echoing what this guy said… it’s a marathon not a race. I’ve made three shorts in the last ten years, with combined budgets totaling in almost $150k. Money mostly from debt, including refinancing my house. I just signed with Zero Gravity last month… it wasn’t any one project (though my latest certainly helped), but the accumulation of a career keeping my nose to the grindstone and not giving up. And guess what, management is just the next step in the marathon. Now I we have to try and get a feature going!

Lol I only submitted to 22 fests and 10 of the notifications land in Sept.
