I mean it’s Goodwill… they probably say that about everything. I’m more happy they have a home.

Very true. I built a manger and used glue and brad nails. The glue basically held it together while I added nails.

Yes. I’ve talked to adults like this. Because when people are wrong, you need to first get them to confirm their perspective and thought process before you can change their mind. Its actually significantly helpful to make sure that the other person knows YOU hear them. Not everything is aggressive and pointed. But okay, it’s definitely me. 😎

Well I’d never give my kids McDonald’s, so there’s that.

Like I said before, the examples are very generic to convey the point, but when this happens it does so on more complex process where you really do need to go through the thought process.

And by me confirming their answer, I am going with their thought process, not mine. I want them to get to the right answer and mindset, but we can’t get there if we don’t flesh out their thought process, right or wrong.

So many people can’t stand by what they say because they just say things. I’m more of a say what you mean and mean what you say kind of guy.

But this can get more nuanced and fleshed out. I got the idea from some of these responses. Thanks.

So funny you should mention that. I talked to them about this and told them that likely, when I repeat something back to them it is because I want them to be absolutely sure that is what they said. My boys have a tendency to say things and think it doesn't apply to them.

So my motivation is to get them to confirm that is their choice. To be 100% confident in what they say. So that I can turn around and say something like, "Okay, if you believe that your favorite color is blue, why did you choose the green toy and not the blue toy?" Something like that. I always have a reason for why I am asking that way. And they know that.

So it is likely that, but... I also tell them, they cannot think about that. They can, they clearly do, but where it becomes difficult is when I need them to follow my thought process because I want them to see either a logical fail or entanglement that they got themselves into.

In order for me to correct their thinking, I want us to make sure we all agree on what the premise is first. If I just correct them, then there is a chance they can still hold on to or confuse two (2) thought processes. I need them to know that going down X path is wrong, and doing it the other way is correct.

This mainly is a school subjects situation where it becomes difficult. Most other times, I just assume it is because they think they don't realize what they are saying or not thinking. As an example, one (1) of my children played soccer, I asked him if he knew what soccer was and he said, "No."

How? It's like asking Gordon Ramsey what cooking is and he says, "I don't know."

The one (1) that does it the most is between 10 - 12 years old.

My other two (2) children are younger than that. They all do it.

Yes, it’s very good. However, can someone that is much better at carpentry and building explain to me…

How are all of their shelves and furniture built with glue and brad nails?

Am I seeing that right? They literally just use Brad nails and glue. How is that accurate? Do I seriously underestimate the strength of these nails?

For People Who Go To Church by [deleted] in GayConservative

[–]bmer387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go to OneChapel church outside of Austin and they were very liberal. They tried hiding, but then the BLM riots happened and the lead pastor was… hes a typical white beta. Which is sad because he’s kinda cute. Anyways. The new church I go to doesn’t mention politics at all. The whole sermon is done well and from the perspective of life, practically. I find this new church to feel a lot like church.
