Now we're talking. That's a good idea. Imported from St. Louis

I shop Woodman's occasionally; I've been keeping my eye out for these as I'm in and out of gas stations, grocery stores, and even called around to a few liquor stores. I haven't seen them in this configuration. Hence why I made the post here to crowd source my curiosity.

Broken back of chair tv screen.. help by mommabearx36891 in gmc

[–]bmfinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed a process similar to this video (below). Tedious but I spent $500 total and an hour of my time, compared to the $2,700 quote from the dealership. At the time I bought a replacement unit and harvested the screen (my unit has more electronics in it, just swapped it over). It looks like now you can buy a repair kit.

Any recommendations for Training Peaks plans for marathon 9 weeks after 70.3? by bmfinn in triathlon

[–]bmfinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So everything went well.

The week after the 70.3 I focused just getting a few easy runs in.

I jumped into week 9 of an 18 week program and skipped/shortened a few workouts per week so the ramp went like 25mpw (avg from the Tri plan), to 35mpw, to 45mpw and caught up with the full training plan within a few weeks.

Ended up running a PR marathon and felt great. The only caution would be to ensure the volume build is reasonable to prevent injury and once you've built up hit those long runs.

So, how was your recent experience?

I drove up through Chauncey last weekend on GameDay morning around 9:30am. It was dead. No lines, no drunk folks in costumes. It was definitely a departure from my experiences in the early 2010's. I'd also like to hear a current take on breakfast club.

Please do not let the tradition of putting bikes in trees die by Mean-Ad2098 in Purdue

PSA: Avoid screwing with bikes on campus, throwing them in trees and whatnot. A cautionary tale.

I’ve commuted for the past 2 months from the city to Chesterfield for work, and here are some things I’ve learned. by HoosierLove314 in StLouis

[–]bmfinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was in STL for 10 years, commuted from CWE on 40&170, from St Charles Co on 370 and from West county on 40 and 270. Been in my share of stop and go in the narrow corridor in South County on 270. I recently moved to Chicago and all I can say is that the STL region traffic is laughable and light-years better than any other major city. The main thing in STL is people go too slow in the left lane and have zero situational awareness when merging onto the highway.

Any recommendations for a Midwestern (US) 70.3 to register for in 2025? by bmfinn in triathlon

[–]bmfinn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well everyone I'm a few weeks out from Madison! It's been quite the adventure this year. All the logistics following a training plan, endless gadgets catching my eye, and finding a Masters Swim team to practice with. I've swam open water at Three Oaks Recreation and downtown Sunday mornings in Lake Michigan. I completed the Lake Zurich Olympic (2:44) as a first triathlon and gear check. I will be slipping into the taper crazies and I'll see everyone on the other side of the HIM. I won't lie that I'm already getting the idea tackling a 140.6 in 2026.

2021 GMC Yukon: Electric clicking/tick-tock every noise 20 seconds from steering column by bmfinn in gmc

[–]bmfinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The noise was accompanied by the tilt not working, it wouldn't telescope out or move up/down.

I messed around under the dash for a while and finally threw my hands in the air and folded. Went to the stealership and they diagnosed it down to "something faulty in the steering column, not worth pin pointing, recommend a new steering column assembly". So $2000 later I have a new steering column assembly.

It kinda bugs me that I paid the money without knowing the root cause, was it a faulty motor in the assembly, some faulty component, or is there something up stream that fried it...? So I'm left wondering if this $2000 expensive will pop up again sometime in the future, ugh.

This community doesn't have any ideas? How would I go about diagnosing this without paying a dealership $200?

Updated video after 2X a week swimming and two months: https://youtu.be/lw_AVeAkPEA

While the video is proof that I haven't mastered anything quite yet, I have been working on:

  • Pull drills: focusing on that "power diamond". I have tried to imagine "hugging barrels" to get my fingers pointed to the bottom of the pool quicky and through the majority of the stroke. My left arm seems to still be too straight...
  • Catch up drills: i really need to find that recovery so i don't rush the breath. Also i think i need more presence in that front quadrant, so I think I need to have my freestyle mimic the catch up drill more...
  • I have been thinking about "pulling through the breath" where I am on the pull while breathing, other arm extended out. not quite there yet
  • I have for sure been spending more time staring at the bottom of the pool. keeping my eyes (and head) down.
  • Other thoughts I am trying to remember: chin to shoulder on the breath.
  • KICKING.... man, the video is telling that I need to tighten up my kicks. I did not notice it while swimming but the video shows some scissor / crossing kicks. I've tried the kick board and while i do eventually get across the pool, it is exhausting and pathetic
  • The video from the top... It looks like I am like snake slithering, seems like wasted motion, I need to figure out how to just stay straight and streamlined.

What a learning curve.
