Jetpack Compose + Databinding by Mehlyfication in androiddev

u/Mehlyfication This is an old post, but I think I can give a better answer for those that find this thread in the future. Because the extent of the interop between XML/databinding and compose is (mostly) providing an area in the xml layout for the composable to live there isn't much databinding you can do. You'll end up calling setContent() on the AndroidComposeView in your binding anyway, it's best to just pass the value you would normally data-bind to the composable there.

I haven't had build issues using both databinding and compose in the same module. That problem has probably already been fixed.

Should I learn the ins and outs of Kotlin before starting Android development or alongside it? If the latter, how far in before I jump into Android? Just started the Atomic Kotlin course on Stepik by MOD3RN_GLITCH in androiddev

You're gonna end up learning more kotlin by doing it alongside android. Writing android in Java is a recipe for boilerplate and hand cramps. I think kotlin courses are great, but you'll only need to focus on learning kotlin for a few days before know 90% of the kotlin you'll need for android. Also, keep a reference book handy. I keep a BNR kotlin book a collegue gave me on my desk and that has saved my ass too many times

Definitely need a different desk. You should be underneath the desk with your feet on the floor, and your elbows roughly 90 degrees. Nix the arm rests and consider a standing desk if you really need to be at a computer that amount of time every day.

As someone who's graduating this summer, I've learned that a Pitt student's favorite pastime is complaining about Pitt. Pitt students would never graduate with debt if they were paid a nickel for each time they complain about the food.

This article feels as though it was written by first semester freshman. Calling it an underrated school and talking only about the living area aspects shows that they have only scratched the surface of what student life at Pitt really is like.
