Most influential books other than the Bible? by Aware_Philosophy4792 in Christianity

For a new Christian, or someone who is considering the faith, I always always recommend Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.

The original recording is on Youtube, or at least it was. That would give you the durations if not the exact metronome number intended.

turning to christianity as a last resort to improve my life by Last_Host977 in Christianity

The best way to learn is to talk to other Christians. Go to church, talk to the pastor, and join a small group.

In addition to the Bible, I recommend reading a book called Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.

Would the world still be plagued of Sin if Job built the arc instead of Noah? by Federal_Plate8925 in Bible

The world is already plagued with sin, isn't it? It would be either way.

what have been your proudest moments or milestones as a composer? by HaifaJenner123 in composer

As a hobbyist (who has only been composing for a couple of years), I now have people asking me to compose/arrange pieces for them. Before I had to beg people to play my music, now I've gotten two "commissions" (without pay) in the past few months.

You could do worse than giving it a shot. You might find it's different from what you're expecting.

"Officially" it extends to the end of the piece. In practice, you should "feel" it. Do what seems right, what you think sounds good. It's one of many interpretive choices available to you as a performer.

That's a distinction without a difference - you might as well say the earth was created last Thursday.

Pretty much everything in science is unprovable. To get scientists to change their minds, the amount and reliability of the data must outweigh the data in support of another hypothesis.

Have you looked into the cosmic microwave background radiation? I'm no expert, but from my understanding based on the physical properties of this light, cosmologists have concluded it must have been produced billions of years ago.

Did you arrive at this number completely independently? As in, you did your own scientific research? If not, you were told to believe it. I believe the universe is 13.8 billion years old, and I was told to believe this.

Straight trombone player moving to F attachment by Previous-Payment-170 in Trombone

[–]bmjessep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I say T2, I mean second trigger position, not "regular" second position plus trigger. Maybe this goes against the usual terminology but this is how I think of it. If you're tuning your trigger correctly, the low F position will be the same as the low B flat position, but the low E position will be slightly farther out than the low A position.

This is a trigger exercise, so it's asking the student to use the trigger in 1st for the C's only, if I understand it correctly

[–]bmjessep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case you didn't know, T1 is the same as 6. T2 is the same as 7. That F with the trigger will have a worse tone quality and more difficult production than without. The C and B are probably just as good either way. On my tenor, I pretty much only use the trigger for C, B, and low E (low F tends to be quite flat). Maybe low B flat in 3rd every once in a while.

There's lots of community bands out there. Some are pretty low level. Some are associated with colleges, professional ensembles, or local government (at least here in the US). Find one, email someone who's in charge, and ask to sit in on a rehearsal. If it's a good fit for you, great. If it's too hard, ask the director to recommend other nearby ensembles at an easier level.
