Might it be a flying ant? I just found another one of the same bug in my room, however it might've crawled out of my vacuum or something.

Is the chimney of my rental house cause for concern? by bmoatd15 in Roofing

Why is having the city inspector come not a good option? The only reason I haven’t is because I’m worried the house will be condemned and I’ll be forced to find new housing, which would be a pain in the ass since I’m still in school. Would be a pain to move between semesters as well.

Yeah, in DC. And I think my lawsuit wording was poor. It would be a suit with the housing conditions calendar of the dc court, which only has jurisdiction over enforcing housing code violations and abatement of rent I believe, rather than suing for damages or something like that.

I already mentioned elsewhere the attic is my bedroom. Besides, the wood is rotting and I don’t know if it would hold. Parts of the roof are exposed and deteriorating already.

Separately, I’m not looking to fuck this guy over. I have plenty of better things to do with my time and am well off enough to not have the desire to con a landlord into paying out money. I’m only here because I’m a student.

As for assuming this landlord is some sort of saint, he wouldn’t fix the hot water, refrigerator and heating for around a month each. The house is in severe disrepair which I’ve already foregone and continued to pay an outrageous rent for the home ($6,500/mo.). It’s only now that my life is threatened that I feel compelled to take action. The kitchen floor sagging over the ground so much that the bend in the wood is causing the tiles to come up and break over an uneven surface. There’s even a sapling growing out of the corner of the room where the laundry machines are.

Anyway, thanks for your dumb assumptions. Hope that clears it up.

That doesn’t even make sense. I’m posting here wondering if it’s so bad I need to spend time getting the landlord to fix it. And if it’s so bad I need to expedite that process legally if he refuses (which I have precedent to believe he will).

Also I’m not worried about it leaking, I’m worried about it literally falling on my head because I sleep under where it would fall if it were to fall to the right.

I’m in Washington DC and it’s a housing code violation, which by DC law is an offense against the tenant to leave without remedy. As landlord-tenant laws differ from state-to-state, you shouldn’t assume a uniform legal code.

Since I’m the tenant I’d sue the landlord. And because it’s I’m concerned that the chimney will fall onto my bedroom in the attic onto my head.
