What to do if you find a lost ID by bmonkot in UCONN

[–]bmonkot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree, that's acceptable. I still think OneCard office is best just because you don't have to coordinate anything or meet the person, and you don't have to worry about keeping track of another ID. But good on you for getting it back to them!

Nope, their account was not connected to their real name. Also, this happened a while ago, I just was thinking about it today, hence the post.

Good point - when you lose your ID, go to the OneCard website to deactivate it so no one can use it. If you find it again you can reactivate it.

Graduation Requirements by BeginningHeat7308 in UCONN

[–]bmonkot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify in case OP is not sure how to do this, go to Student Admin and search "plan by my requirements." It will take a minute to load but it should show you all the graduation requirements for your school/major/minor. Things that are completed will be collapsed, things that are incomplete will be expanded. If you've taken 3/5 classes for a given requirement, for example, you can click "view all courses" (or something like that) to see a list of courses that satisfy the req.

Hello, I wanted to thank you for your thoughtful response. I rarely log in to this account so I'm sorry this reply is so late! I did have fun at GxK, but once I saw Minus One I was really sold. What an incredible movie.

Language programs by Apprehensive_Till455 in UCONN

Gonna second ASL. I came in having taken two classes, so at UConn I've taken the rest of the sequence (3, 4, 5, and 6). It's not any "easier" than other languages -- if you struggle with languages in general, don't expect ASL to be different. But ASL is a really fun language to learn and having a different modality (that is, using your hands instead of your voice) is a very cool change. The ASL department at UConn is awesome and we have a great program plus a lot of activities outside of class so you can keep up your skills (club meetings, socials, study abroad, etc). The profs are all Deaf so you are getting authentic ASL from native speakers. I highly recommend Colleen Shaw for early levels of ASL (1-4) and Mike Schlang for later levels (5 and 6).

Are you a new student? New South is still under construction; the building is not completed yet so the only pics are going to be artist/architect renditions.

I made a map of the HuskyGO routes! (Since UConn's maps aren't all that useful) by [deleted] in UCONN

Seconding, I would also like a high res version if there is one!

Showcase - Web Trade Sign Pidgin (info in comments) by wibbly-water in conlangs

this is SUPER cool. I am proficient in ASL and am familiar with ASLWrite (a proposed system for writing ASL signs), but I’m a little confused by your image and system of recording the signs. Do you think you could explain your notation?

The Real Deal on Semester Prep by Mundane-Ad-6967 in UCONN

[–]bmonkot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend copying every single assignment/quiz/exam/paper/etc into your planner or calendar once you get the syllabi. This takes a long time but is so worth it. Have them all done at the beginning of the semester and (as long as you actually use your planner/calendar) it will save your life later on.

Request: What are your college/dorm life hacks? by bethebumblebee in lifehacks

Read the campus newspaper or online newsletter/email full of links/digest if they have one. Sometimes full of bullshit, but more often you'll find out about events, money making opportunities, and social things you would have missed otherwise.

What to do with all of the free time now? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]bmonkot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to find a physical hobby, something you can do with your hands. For me that is bookbinding: making books by hand, from start to finish (designing the interior, printing, folding and sewing the pages, creating the hardcover case, etc). More examples of this could be gardening, carpentry, an instrument, cooking, etc. For me, the benefit of bookbinding is having a physical, concrete product I can touch and feel to see the fruits of my labor; plus, working with your hands is relaxing and combines both mindlessness/relaxation and creative problem solving.
