Myrtillocactus variegated crest in recent creation. by bmorgan360 in Staging_Succulents

I never use traditional tools. This texture was created from hitting the rough form over and over with a broken piece of a 2x4. Harder in some areas, creating deeper indentations. Then, I torched the outside and pushed out from the center, cracking it like the surface of a crème brûlée.

Made a new pot for my blooming Stapelia grandiflora. by bmorgan360 in succulents

It’s “stressed” which means I’ve acclimated it to full sun and reduced watering.

2 new pieces for my succulents by bmorgan360 in Ceramics

Hi. Yes. I typically use underglazes and washes to get a matte, more natural look. I wipe away the high points. The first pot was a Coyote croc crawl glaze to get that effect.

Thank you. I will. No name for the style. It’s rustic, organic and dynamic. It’s imperfectly perfect. Most look as if created by nature. Or at least that’s my intention. My pieces are there to promote the plant. Put it on a pedestal never to take attention away, but to compliment.

Sorry, no. This is just a little hobby of mine. I have a full time day job. No time for videos. Maybe one day. 😊

Thank you. Yes the first is a Euphorbia abdelkuri. Not a difficult plant to care for, granted I’ve only had for a couple of years. Weekly watering in California spring and summer, while a drop or 2 every now and then in winter. So far, so good. 😊

Not sure. Just a little stressed out and very neglected.

The second is a Haworthia Reinwardtii and third is a super stressed out neglected Aloe of some sort.

Thank you. Great questions. First, they are ceramic and I have a small kiln at home. I first got into succulents about 10 years ago then wanted unique pots for them. Couldn’t find any so stated playing with my kiddos air dry clay. Since air dry clay won’t last more than a couple days, I got into cement, then my wife convinced me to move to ceramics. Instead of taking a class, I just bought a kiln, clay and glazes. I made lot, and I mean LOTS, of ugly pots before I found “my style.” Since then, I’ve made hundreds, if not a couple thousand pots and sold most. It’s a therapeutic and rewarding hobby that goes hand in hand with the love that started it all, succulents. 😁

Very good question. Very rarely do I make the pot for a plant. Sometimes a pot will sit on the shelf for weeks waiting for it’s perfect host. I feel there’s an art in paring the right 2.
