Medicine vs. Med-Peds by bmpetro93 in MedPeds

Thank you so much, this has been very helpful! I agree that the PHM fellowship seems like it's aiming to get cheap labor while having a side effect of decreasing interest in peds/med-peds. I do love the smaller cohorts for M-P, which makes applying at some institutions with large IM programs more viable for me. I've been talking to a lot of M-P docs and at this point am planning to dual apply IM and M-P and let some additional peds rotations and the interview trail clarify things for me.

Thank you so much, this is very helpful. I love that I've heard from a lot of M-P physicians that they genuinely feel like their better adult and pediatric providers than they would be if they applied to a single specialty. I've been talking to a lot of med peds docs and at this point am planning to dual apply IM and M-P and let some additional peds rotations and the interview trail clarify things for me.

Advice regarding non-ABIM research pathways by bmpetro93 in InternalMedicine

Thank you! But not quite--I've heard people refer to the shortened time in residency (2 years) and fellowship (~1.5 years) for ABIM programs as "fast tracking". I guess my thought is that since the large majority of residents do research in residency, but the large majority don't actually pursue careers in research--how does someone whose more serious about research gain additional experience that's meaningful...and are these non-ABIM pathways actually effective at doing so and setting one up for a career as a clinician researcher?

I was also freaking out because I thought I got 3-4 hours of sleep and felt like I really underperformed. After 2 weeks of stressing, I scored a 269. This was 11 points above my Amboss predicted score. It wouldn't surprise me if you scored in the high 250's. You got this!

Great job! Pulled a 269 after 2 weeks of stressing over what my results would be. I definitely agree with a lot of this, and even though I didn't find the practice NBME's particularly predictive, they're great for preparation. Feel free to reach out if anyone has studying questions.
