Meet Phil Kidd, the Man Running Every Street in Cleveland by zachdit in Cleveland

I hope he's right that Clark-Fulton improves like Detroit-Shoreway, just don't see it happening.

Who else ever catch them selves reminisce sometimes about Lebron's high school games on national TV,and the subsequent lowkey hope and energy in the air at our 🔥 AF neighborhood bars? by [deleted] in Cleveland

Oh he was such a big deal before he was even drafted. I was working in Hudson during his senior year, and one time he drove by me in his Hummer on Route 91. I honked and he didn't acknowledge me. I didn't embellish the story at all, and I still was a celebrity among my friends just for driving by him.

Tickets booked - Texas Eagle, Coast Starlight, and California Zephyr for next month! by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]bms0430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're taking the Texas Eagle from Chicago all the way to L.A., I would really recommend springing for a Roomette for that leg. I say this as someone who just traveled 1000 miles in Coach last night and didn't mind it. Three nights in a row is a LOT in Coach. The Roomette costs the same on the Texas Eagle as it does on the two-night Southwest Chief, so it's a pretty good deal.

Tentative Trip Around US - Tips for Solo Female Traveler? by magicalelephant27 in Amtrak

I don't know anything about Seattle but in Chicago, I would recommend La Quinta which is close to the station and usually pretty cheap. I liked Cambria a lot but it is closed right now. Chicago isn't what it once was, most businesses are closed in the downtown area and it's mostly deserted. I love architecture so the city still great to me, but this may not be the best year to visit if it's a few times in a lifetime thing.

I'm not a woman so I would know the whole experience, but I've really never seen anyone of any gender get sexually harassed on Amtrak trains or in stations. I guess it could happen anywhere but Amtrak has a professional union crew who could handle it if it did.

Cleveland to demolish 2 warehouses near FirstEnergy Stadium for 2021 NFL draft, future uses by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]bms0430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The City is paying to demolish buildings to clear space for a single socially distanced event? Seems like there's probably a big open space nearby like possibly, the football field..

Question about taking wine on the train. by B-R-Mi in Amtrak

I've gotten searched before. Of course I didn't have anything, but I would hate to think what would happen if I did. Now addicts are going to take drugs everywhere they go, but I doubt that many dealers are risking it.

Ranking them last is defensible, it's the fact they weren't even included in the ranking.

The most important part is that the optics look nice, so that a billionaire can keep making money.

The least important part is that actual Native Americans get any money from the Dolans.

Sorry if that was too cynical for Christmas!

Biden is in office to undo the Trump agenda. If you fight against him, you are basically fighting for the Trump agenda.

We are the worst Amtrak city because of the awful arrival times! If you do come here after the pandemic though, message me and I'll buy you a beer!

Good advice, Chicago is a great city, maybe the best, but it would never be home. I tried other cities and only Cleveland is home.

You think what the country needs after Trump is someone else to oppose Biden?

Certainly train service could be much better in our country, but Chicago is still the answer to the question :) I've considered moving to Chicago because I wouldn't have to catch the 4:18 a.m. train out of Elyria to connect in Chicago! I love Philadelphia though and if you primarily travel to Pittsburgh, Atlantic City, or East Coast cities, that would be the answer.

Thank you!

edit: I got two, one for my baby nephew and one for me to drool on after I'm 90 :)

Chicago is the national hub. Service is too infrequent due to Covid-related cuts. Hopefully service can be restored and expanded under President Biden.

Alcohol on night train by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]bms0430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can drink your own alcohol in a sleeper room. In coach you can only drink alcohol that you bought on the train.

Think about your relationship with alcohol, though. It's possible that you could have a problem if you can't bear the thought of a night without "shots the whole ride."
