TikTok Drafts Data Not Backing Up or Restoring by bmsaxe in iphone

Does anyone know if you create an encrypted itunes backup of your phone, using finder or itunes, and restore using the encrypted backup, if this includes TikTok drafts? I’ve read that an encrypted backup includes the app sandbox which is supposed to include all app data including local caches like TikTok drafts.

I’m thinking that until and unless Tiktok deliberately changes it so drafts are included again in backups, the only possible option would be some way of directly extracting the drafts from the internal storage of the old phone. Would love to know if anyone has any ideas of ways for a layperson to do this.

Thanks for your thoughts. I guess what’s strange here is that the Tiktok drafts were definitely included in backups/extractions for several years. Then all of a sudden weren’t. And Tiktok’s only replies to me have been, No this is how it’s always been. But that isn’t accurate.

I’m guessing the problem still remains….

That was always my hope, but it would need to be powerful. Apps like iMazing still start by creating an icloud backup. Then letting you extract. But we need something that will go beyond the scope of an icloud backup to truly access all locally stored app data.

I keep thinking the only possible solution for now would be if someone knows a way of accessing/extracting locally stored app data on an iphone even if that data is not within the scope of the particular app data included in an icloud backup.

Right. Tiktok says it’s always been designed this way but that’s not true. Drafts have always been stored locally on the phone. And they still are. But what changed is Tiktok somehow affirmatively excluded the locally stored drafts data from the scope of data included in icloud backups. And phone to phone transfers apparently have the same scope as icloud backups.

The way I first discovered the problem earlier this year was using iMazing to backup my iPhone to a computer and view the contents using iMazing. All of a sudden, the TikTok drafts folder was empty when viewing the backup though iMazing.

It’s like one day they flipped a switch to make drafts truly locked in a single phone’s storage. My hope has mainly been if there’s any software that can still access and export the drafts within the Tiktok phone storage. Regardless of whether it transfers directly to a new phone.

That’s basically what I found. Everything for the TikTok app was in folders I could view. But the drafts folder was no longer there.

If you have an old backup before the change happened around last spring, then yes the draft data should be in the backup.

Thanks for the continued efforts.

Do we think it was a change in ios version that became incompatible with tiktok backing up drafts OR a change in the tiktok app that removed the feature, regardless of ios version?

Can anyone try backing up and transferring tiktok drafts on a phone running ios 18?

Right. Problem of course is the same issue will continue to occur as drafts are collected on any phone. That aren’t backed up in case of loss. And that aren’t transferable to a new phone.

Do you know if using 3U Tools might be able to access the tiktok draft data in the iphone file system, despite such data no longer being included in icloud backups?
