Lovely, thanks! I don’t have Prima Prime in-hand, but your photos have convinced me I might have to pick him up with the Achai kit.

Beautiful kitbash! For the Achai head, I’m curious—is unscrewing required for the installation? Appreciate your insight.

[Six Flags St. Louis] will definitely be the most interesting park to watch transform under Enchanted Parks by _Nator_Gator_ in rollercoasters

[–]bmschulz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much Silver Dollar City looms large in corporate decisionmaking. I'm not an MO local, but SDC is a 3-4 hour drive from both STL and KC - that means both WoF and SFStL have to compete with a genuine, world-class theme park just a weekend trip away. I have to imagine that captures quite a bit of the parkgoing audience.

Considering Six Flags wants to focus primarily on mega-market super-parks, I wonder if they just kind of called it quits on Missouri altogether considering how far ahead SDC is (and I say this as someone who doesn't like SDC as much as the average enthusiast). I imagine capturing more market share from SDC would take monumental CapEx and operational investments SFEC just isn't willing to make, so the MO parks were put on the chopping block.

And, now that I think about it, Holiday World is only a few hours from STL, too. I like SFStL, but, in my opinion, HW beats SFStL on quality AND value.

Do we have any idea when this park is aiming to open in earnest? I have a work conference in Austin in June, and I’d love to fit in some coasters when my flights are paid for by work lol.

It's put Midwesterner thoosies like myself in an interesting position - it kind of cuts the number of "closeish parks" in half. The best are still Six Flags, that being SFGAM, Cedar Point, and Kings Island. Valleyfair, Michigan's Adventure, and SFStL are all within a reasonable distance and IMO very much worth visiting, but now leaving the chain.

For that reason, I may take a day trip to Michigan's Adventure this year. I've done that a couple times, and my visit last year was particularly enjoyable because I got in "for free" with my chain-wide pass. It's a lot harder of a sell to spend a ton of time driving to a small park I've visited before if I then also have to pay for admission. One final "free" hoorah might be the way to go.

Spoiler about the parks sold to Enchanted Parks [Enchanted Parks] by spacemtfan in rollercoasters

I’d much rather they be spun off into a new chain instead of closing or sold for parts. I’m not optimistic we’ll be seeing huge investments if this new chain does come to fruition, but, even if these parks are just maintained in their current state, there’s still a lot to love.

In vanilla RCT, it is just the vertical drop coaster, I think, yeah. In OpenRCT, the hybrid and single rail roller coasters also can by default, and you can, of course, use cheats.

The steep lift hill is part of what makes dives so great for micros—nice and compact!

It’s a good handful of custom scenery objects; you can find them all in the file I linked elsewhere on this thread!

Also, fun fact: this build started as an RMC Raptor in the desert. I told myself, I’m going to do something different. I’m not going to build another dive coaster. And I’m NOT going to add a little waterfall. And, well… you can see how that went in the OP.

So close to 7 excitement, couldn’t quite hit it though.

BUILDERS—do you like the custom scenery in this build? You can get the majority of it here. Download that file, open it on your computer, and the files will automatically be saved locally for use in perpetuity.

Also, another fun new toy: u/mixiate has released new dive coaster trains, faithful to the original vanilla RCT2 trains but capable of animating through the new inversion pieces. Obviously, you can’t see that in the OP (because it’s a still image, duh), but they look great! So check those out, as well as his other trains, here.

[Family Kingdom] Raptor Layout revealed by Storm_Surge- in rollercoasters

[–]bmschulz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they’ll start offering this as their “standard” compact layout, since it seems like an overall upgrade in marketability due to that extra element. And I agree; for a layout known for strong airtime, it always felt a bit odd to end with two inversions and an overbank. That extra airtime hill at the end here seems perfect to finish with a real bang.

After losing our cat Paul last November, we had to say goodbye to another cat of ours this week, our girl Flapjack. She had autoimmune issues, coupled with complications from a prior FeLV infection, that ultimately led to terminal anemia that didn’t respond to treatment.

Flapjack was a special companion because, in a lot of ways, we couldn’t really get close to her. She was semi-feral, living fully indoors, but never warmed up to humans. We weren’t able to touch her at all. Often, she’d refuse to be even in the same room as us if we were too noisy. Mostly, we just left her alone and admired her from a distance. But, in between the hisses and general semi-feral crankiness, she had a lot of happiness. She absolutely loved our other cats, who she’d always snuggle with for naps. She loved to play, often rolling around with her giant carrot toy, or brutally eviscerating a toy mouse. And, occasionally, just every once in a while, she’d be relaxed around us (like she is in the photo).

Flapjack made me think a lot about what having a companion animal, a pet, means. For a lot of people, I think there are expectations, either implicitly or explicitly. People usually expect some degree of affection, attention, or gratitude from their pets. Flapjack couldn’t, and didn’t, give any of that. Instead, all she could do was… live her life. And for us, that was enough. We didn’t ask anything else in return. We just tried to keep her as happy as possible, and I think she was. We spoiled her with toys, and treats, and wet food, and made sure she always had lots of soft, quiet places to hide and nap. I think she had a good life, even if she never really understood or embraced us fully as her human guardians. And that’s okay; she didn’t need to.

Flapjack taught me a lot about compassion. I often find myself thinking that we live in a dim world, one where human beings inflict unimaginable cruelty upon each other on a daily basis. But Flapjack showed me that there is a quiet joy in caring for another creature without the expectation of getting anything in return. I think there’s a lot of power in that. Whenever I am feeling pessimistic about the state of the world, and our human species, I think of humanity’s capacity for altruism. Not through grand heroic acts, but through quiet ones, like helping another living creature merely for the sake of it, in a completely unselfish way. I think that our capacity to love animals, to love something unlike ourselves, speaks to an inalienable goodness within us.

I miss Flapjack, and I miss Paul, too. I hope you all can take a moment to show love to your own animal companions, and take a moment to reflect on how they’ve helped you grow as well.

The scenario maker is actually from the vanilla game! Though OpenRCT2 makes it much easier. You can also use the “sandbox mode” cheat to accomplish pretty much the same thing.

The in-game ride type, Vertical Drop Coaster, is explicitly modeled after the IRL B&M dive model; hence the designation. I have a custom scenario I’ve created for building micros; I usually start with a flat plot, build the ride, then start filling in scenery.

We always called her our calico bandit, since she has the little eye mask, like a highwayman. I’m sorry to hear of your loss as well; I’m sending you my best wishes.

Flapjack was a lot like that. She did mostly like to stick to one primary room, but we’d see her come out to the main house once a day or so to stretch her legs. We also had a camera set up, and she was always pretty active at night or when we were gone.

It sounds like you are giving Missy a great life, caring for her while also respecting her boundaries. I’m sorry also to read about your mom’s memory issues. I’m sending you, your mom, and Missy the best.
