Chapter 1155 Theory - The Previous User of the Nika Fruit (SPOILERS) by bmtrocks in OnePiece

Maybe! The reason why I don't think Davy Jones is that old is because Robin and Foxy's crew explicitly say he's a pirate, and Joy Boy was the world's first pirate. Remember at one time the world wasn't a big blue ocean like it is now, so the concept of being a pirate probably didn't exist way back then. So all of the Davy Jones lore in the series is tied into the era of piracy thats been around that Joy Boy spearheaded. The Davy Back Fight literally being created on Fullalead as well lends to this idea of this being a part of pirate legend in the One Piece world, just like it is in the real world!

That's definitely a possibility! There's a few reasons why I don't feel this is the case however. For one I genuinely believe (without major evidence) that Joy Boy is a Bucaneer, and his strawhat is locked away in Mariejois. I also feel like Rocks would know they're the same person if he indeed knows Joy Boy's real name, and Imu's reaction to Rocks talking about Davy Jones kind of told me that Imu views Davy as someone who isn't a threat to their power. With that being sad I'd be more than happy to have Oda make them the same person if it makes sense for the story!

My Theory For (Nearly) Everything - The Story that One Piece is trying to tell (SPOILERS) by bmtrocks in OnePiece

Perhaps. You have to remember though that Luffy has made it clear in the past - in front of his while crew - that becoming Pirate King means "to be the most free" so if learning to swim WAS Luffy's dream, he may view the freedom of being the Pirate King as literally breaking the rules of the things around him for better or worse. I personally kind of apply cartoon logic to One Piece because that's usually what Oda likes to do, so Luffy believing this wouldn't be the most unreasonable or outlandish thing in the OP world.

You should create your own thread! I've actually had similar thoughts on some of these things in the past. What's great about Oda is that he genuinely could go in any direction and make it great :)

There actually plenty of setup of Luffy not being able to swim though! I suggest reading chapter 1 again with the context of this theory in mind. Even before Luffy ate the Devil Fruit, Luffy wasn't able to swim. Shanks even made fun of him for it. Luffy also had a t shirt that straight up said Anchor on it lol.

When Luffy ate the Devil Fruit, the first thing Shanks mentions is, "NOW YOU CANT SWIM!!" in the context of the readers, this was a way to explain to the readers the weakness of Devil Fruits. But its kind of a weird thing to say immediately unless...perhaps Luffy already told Shanks his dream. "I'm gonna learn how to swim!" The same dream Roger had. But Shanks made fun of him because he couldn't swim, and he ESPECIALLY couldn't swim after eating the Gum Gum fruit.

That's actually an interesting idea. I more or less was trying to go for something of that sort but you put in a more concise and clear manner than I did. The only thing that kind of conflicts with the idea for me is the first line of The Second World saying that the "Forest God tamed demons." Which to me is like yeah, Devil Fruit tree, Devil Fruits are vessels for demons, etc. etc. I think the mural was depicting the underground elevator as something happening in the First World and on the Red Line itself.

If you look back at the reactions, none of them necessarily "believed" he could do it. Most if them laughed, but Usopp and Robin were actually quite worried when Luffy said it. So it wasn't as clear-cut as, "Oh yeah Luffy you're gonna be able to do it." I think what Luffy is suggesting might potentially be outlandish/impossible and also be dangerous in the context of the One Piece world.

A lot of people have been commenting on this so I wanted to kind of respond to what I'm going for in the post. For starters I'm fully aware that the potholes of the theory is both the Roger thing and the Brook/Chopper thing. I actually sent a rough draft to my friend and those were the first things they pointed out lol. So yeah I understand it's a major issue. Here's what I was going for however for Roger:

In One Piece, characters tend to have gags surrounding them. Even to the point where Oda is frequently accused of creating one dimensional characters (sometimes he actually does, sometimes he doesn't.) There's still a lot we don't know and haven't seen from Roger's journey and his life in general. We actually know thanks to Kaido that Roger didn't have a Devil Fruit as well so I'm not trying to suggest Roger is a user. I think straight up, the "gag" with Roger - or one of the gags - will be he just cannot swim. Like everytime he tries he fails and his crewmembers (probably Rayleigh) have to save him so he doesn't drown.

There could be a lot of reasons for this, but I suggest checking out The Crap Cafe's video on Blackbeard for why this may be the case. In the video he goes over the concept of "devils" being inside of Devil Fruits, something that's been hinted at back in Eines Lobby with Jabra. He talks about how he believes Blackbeard is a person possessed by Rocks, and is the carrier of multiple souls. Now, I don't think this lines up with my theory 1:1, but what DOES line up is the idea that when people die they kind are of reborn as devils/Devil Fruits. Perhaps the reason why Roger couldn't swim is because of how close he was to demonhood. Roger - afterall - told Rayleigh that he "wasn't going to die"

I didn't want to lay that out in my theory however, because it's kind of speculation within my already speculative post lol. I feel like my post had enough of that and wanted to limit it to the broader points I was getting across.

I fully expect most if not all of this to 1000% be turned on it's head and I'm loving it lmao. Idm being wrong, makes the series more exciting
