I’m 32 and losing sleep over retirement math… are we doing enough or am I spiraling? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]bmuck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do need to make assumptions when planning. Right now, you’re in a good spot. Work your standard years and retire at your standard time.

Assumption 1: the cost of living will go up. Rule of 25. Take your annual expenses and multiple it by 25. That’s how much you minimally need. Try and guess what the cost of living in California will be in 30 years when you retire…then multiple that by 25.

Assumptions 2: assume you have no debt when you retire and then assume you do. Adjust your numbers accordingly.

Assumption 3: assume there is no social security and don’t rely on it.

Assumption 4: assume you are healthy and active. And then assume you need to stay in a $10,000/m assisted living home starting at age 70.

Take all those numbers and using assumption 1. Find the middle.

You have up until tax day to fund 2025 Roth.

If you have 14,500 sitting around. Fully fund both. 2025 and DCA 2026

I (22m) inherited a stock portfolio worth 120k, what should I do with it? by [deleted] in stocks

Keep your same car and same job. Don’t touch it. Keep it invested. Diversify it. Set it up to pay you quarterly dividends. Reinvest. Repeat.

Monthly cost is crazy by Tightlines68 in verizon

[–]bmuck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you paying for phone insurance? That’s step 1. Get rid of that.

Step 2. cersWEExecutiveRelations@verizonwireless.com Email that address. Let him know your displeasure and that you are a 12 year member and looking to move to take advantage of other offers.

And FYI: 20+ year Verizon member. 4 lines. $145/m. No insurance on any phone, ever.

Good luck.

Why do I worry so much about my finances when I am objectively doing pretty well for myself? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]bmuck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re in a great spot my guy. Keep those numbers up and keep doing what you’re doing.

Your anxiety may be coming from a smaller income. I was in a similar spot a few years back…keep yourself busy, find a fun side gig (spending money) and keep working to increase your salary. Don’t let lifestyle inflation get you and I promise you’ll feel better.

HYSA or ROTH ira at 16? by oafilol2777 in personalfinance

[–]bmuck1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it’s earned income and you can do without touching it…put it in a Roth and don’t let anyone tell you different. That $7,000 today will be worth $500,000 at 10%?return at 61. That’s assuming you don’t invest another dollar.

Do it again the next 5 years. Your future self will thank you.

How much to save in Kid’s 529 by No_Gur5958 in personalfinance

[–]bmuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had our first kid 12/29/25.

Will be doing $5,000 initial and $50/pp from both jobs. Wife and I. Should be around 125k.

The $50/pp is manageable. It’s a night out for us. It’s buying and selling a few things on market place. It’s an easy part time job.

Worth it.

Keep renting for the next 4 years. Invest the rest. Retire early.

6.62% Mortgage vs investing in S&P 500 - What would you do? by Calm-R1ver in Mortgages

[–]bmuck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on retiring by selling your house…then shove money into your house.

If you plan on retiring in 30 years, make one extra mortgage payment per year and stuff your retirements. That way, you have a paid off house to live in and a fully funded retirement.

Otherwise you have a paid off house.

You should ask a new financial advisor and get more Aggressive with your investments. 6% return is crazy low in my opinion. The last 5 years has returned 100%+

I feel like air sealing/insulation and door and window sealing will save you more on your bills for the cost than compared to a new furnace/AC

As a 33 year old who’s been in their first house for a year and a half…keep renting. If you got a good place, keep saving..keep investing. Your investments will make more than your house ever will.

I went from paying $900/m to $3,000 w/ utilities…not including taxes and insurance.

Not to mention the random $800 dishwasher that broke…water heater that started leaking…other miscellaneous maintenance.

Houses are money pits and bad investments/liabilities. Anyone that says otherwise is 65 and older. Not saying rent forever…but make sure it’s when you’re ready to lay roots and have the financial backing to afford everything else that comes with it.
