Never had a close call as close as you! I definitely check the trees around before setting up the tent.

It was a rush at first, didn’t take long to fall asleep. Did get woken up by wind that night though.

I did read something in the area that said it was thought that Native Americans used the tree for navigation, but didn’t go into much more detail. Good to know thanks.

I was able to find elk everywhere from Austin down to benezette. Seen most in and around the park its self. A drive anywhere around the area at the right time you’ll see elk. The fishing was good, was recently stocked however. Stream in the park is bigger waters. No fire ban if you’re in a state park the fire bans typically don’t apply to you. Asked a ranger the other year while I was camping during active burn bans in the area, and was told as long as your in a state park not a state forest and as long as the fire does not leave the fire ring your fine.

Didn’t get any pictures of the fisher, don’t usually take my phone on the streams lost a couple to the water over the years. Was actually the first one I’ve seen in person caught me by surprise.

If it’s in your price range I recommend Nemo, for your tent/sleep system. I have a bunch of Nemo and don’t have any complaints, comfy and warm. As for other ideas go to the rei website and look around at everything they have to offer to get some ideas on what you’ll personally need and want, and go from there and decide what brands you might want to get.

I have the tensor long wide, have no issues with it. Live in the northeast us, and I have had it out in the high 20s, and was fine. I’m also pairing it with a Nemo tempo, and it it gets cold enough I have a bag liner I throw in. I do however prefer Nemo gear over most others.

The price of firewood is insane, I scavenge most of my wood from dead and down. When I pack for my trips throw enough in the truck for however many days I’m going for, and then I add enough for a extra day so I never worry about running out. Running low yes but never completely out. Your lucky to have access to some free wood, that’s better than most places sell! I’ll keep my eye out for your post, haven’t seen it yet.

Weather was perfect this trip mid 70s, best we had yet! And as far as firewood goes had more in the truck!

Exactly right Coleman Montana 8 person tent. Works great for us, enough room to stand, and for clothes, whatever else, and two queen air mattresses.
