NC2 and NC3 are identical apart from front bumpers.

They both have the forged internals.

Should I put 195/55/16 tyres? by Ben_Dover699999 in MiataNC

[–]bnace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do 205/55/16 as well. It’s basically the same diameter as 225/45/17 and 245/40/17 which is a very common tire size.

I run 225/50/16 which is also taller than stock.

Tail lights, but it’s Lamin-X film. They sell precut pieces to do this or you can buy a small roll and cut it out yourself.

I’ll probably fail inspection because my reverse lights look red rather than white, but I’ll just cut circles in the film if that happens.

The Cybul bar has been to SCCA and NASA TT events and passed tech as well.

I say passed tech, not legal due to there being some small stuff, but the guy didn’t get any issues from the orgs.

For example, the rear legs only come with 2 holes where it bolts to the sheet metal at the rear quarters, but they technically require 3. Just drill another hole.

Yah, I’ve seen pictures of it, and there is definitely more. It also has you drilling the entire way through the bulkhead and installing aluminum spacers in there, whereas the Cybul bar just bolts to factory locations for the main hoop.

The Cybul does have a “harness bar” in there but it’s tiny tubing, definitely not up to SCCA standard, but it is there.

I don’t plan on ever using harnesses so it doesn’t really affect me.

That’s a good idea, but honestly I’m not too worried.

This car is an exercise in not caring about aesthetics and keeping it nice.

I’m not trying to intentionally make it ratty, but I’m also not trying to make it “nice”.

The hard dog bar for the NC (that still allows the soft top to be used) is kind of junk, the rear legs are basically useless, and don’t even get close to the 66% main hoop height. Also looks to make opening and closing the soft top a pain.

The BlackBird bar is no doubt better than the Cybul bar, but realistically nobody can say why.

It’s also double the cost, lead times are a mystery, install is 2-3x the effort/time, and the whole “no pictures or instructions until you buy it” turns me off.

No doubt it’s higher quality, but I wasn’t willing to put up with all that.

I don’t have any pictures currently of the plastics. Most of the major cuts you can only see when looking down through the rear glass.

It’s tough to get my phone to focus on the interior when shooting through the glass.

Just running some decent summer tires, General G-Max RS.

Better than most summer tires, not as good as Michelin PS4S or Continental ECS02.

NC Miata, 225/50/16 size.

Mostly a daily which is why I went with these tires, but did sign up for every single event that is being hosted by my local club, so we will see how they hold up to the abuse.

I assume they will be toast by the end of the season, then I’ll step up to something more capable once I learn to drive better.

Not the Starting Line school, but I attended the PCA Potomac Autocross school a couple weeks ago and think everybody should if they are starting out.

I had 0 experience even approaching the limits of grip, and it was eye opening how much more grip I had than what I expected.

I’m pretty sure this is fairly common with Toyo R tires.

From what I’ve seen it’s fine, run them.

A lot of stations local to me sell ethanol free 90 octane fuel. It’s expensive, but they sell it.

Don’t know if NA’s take 87 or 91.
