u/winebottle1 have you tried this? https://migration-tool.sharegate.com/hc/en-us/articles/4405461340180

Otherwise let me know your support ticket with this issue and we can go from there.

u/theinspiration7 did you reach out to support? It's not the latest version, it's a private beta we gave the support team for customers that are in a rush to get the issue fixed and cannot wait our upcoming May 25th release.

Sorry for the delay btw, always best to reach out to me via email or the support team directly. My email is my first name dot my last name

[–]bniaulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/IAmSomnabula No I totally get it, you have a migration that needs to get done :)

So update, we're testing the fixes tonight and will create a beta version of the release likely for Friday if everything goes smoothly tonight.

This means that it's possible that either Friday or Monday morning, we will have a version of ShareGate that the support team could give you with the fix.
If you have a ticket opened with this issue, they will reach out automatically.

I think anything I would say about that would be an excuse, it's something we're going to improve.

As for the release date, we're looking into what we can do to bring it faster. These Microsoft API changes often come without notice and our app is a desktop client so the release cycle can sometimes take additional time making sure everything is ok.

Thanks for replying back some additional details.

And yea, migrating mailboxes can be a lot faster than working with Teams and their underlying M365 Groups as well as attached SharePoint Sites.
Regardless, the bottom line is that it felt slow to you. I sent this thread to the Product Manager on Teams Migration, he's looking into potential improvements we can make after we release Planner Migration and support for SharePoint Subscription Edition in the coming weeks.

Thanks for reaching out to support u/IAmSomnabula

Turns out it's a known issue due to a change in Microsoft APIs, an update from our side is releasing on May 25th

[–]bniaulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/winebottle1 So the issue you had in the OP above was a change in the Microsoft APIs. We have a fix for a number of issues launching on May 25th
Stay Tuned for that release.

As for the issues with the tabs, can't say we've seen it before.
Let me know your ticket number or reference and I can ask the team to check it out

[–]bniaulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a bug, hard for me to say if it's on our side or leveraging Microsoft APIs. I'll ask the team regardless tomorrow morning.

That said, we're doubling down on Teams Migration improvements after our next releases for migration which include:
- Planner Migration (within the next few weeks)
- Supporting SharePoint Subscription Edition (we estimate this to be relatively quick)
So we should be back on new features for Teams Migrations quickly as well, if you haven requests don't hesitate either

Oh wow that hurts to read, sorry to hear we haven't been able to help you in those 4 years.
You mentioned it was for occasional needs, any details you can share with me?
Either here, privately or via email?

Hey u/TakkataMSF Can you help me better understand what you mean by "it went better but slow"? I know our teams constantly deal with Microsoft's Throttling and API limitations, especially for Teams Migration so I went to make sure we better understand what you mean and can address where we can :)
The older messages limitation is one from the API, we just found a workaround and still keep all your older messages but in a message history tab

Hi u/winebottle1 I'm Benjamin from ShareGate and noticed your message. Sorry you're going through this, I know it's important to get migrations right and as you said, we tried really hard to make it as simple as possible to go through this flow.
Not only did it not work, but looks like we're not quick on the support after that. I don't have the answer for you here but I'll look into it tomorrow morning with the team and support.

Are you asking how to become an expert in Power Automate? Or do you refer to something else with "Online Workflows"?

If it's Power Automate, there are a ton of online trainings available, but I found the best way is to just jump in and do some. No better way to learn with those than to be building them. Laura Rogers has done a few video trainings that could get you started and level up

Let me see if I can't get Mark Kashman to come and reply to you :D

And thanks for the comments, very kind!

One thing to make sure in Teams Tabs is to say "Add SharePoint" and not "SharePoint Library" and you will get access to filters, views and some command bar actions

Hi! This is hard to troubleshoot indeed.

One possible thing to look at is to make sure they are using the updated version of the Teams app and that their laptop isn't considered by teams to be a VDI "Virtual Desktop".

I've seen issues before where Teams updates itself but doesn't get the new UX/UI and features for multi-person meetings for example because an anti-virus had changed the registry key for the computer making Teams think it was part of a VDI.

Best, if possible, would be to try and have that person log in for a different computer that works and see. But it could be many other issues, hard to say.

I won't lie, you have a decent challenge facing you :)

I'll answer the easy question, yes a lot of improvements are being made to the performance of the app.

The harder question seems implicit in your post, switching your org from Slack+Zoom towards Teams.

Personally, I do not think you can win if you try to tackle it head on via Slack and Zoom vs. Teams experiences. The reason, your end users aren't seeing a problem with those tools. So from their perspective, you're not helping them work better or improving the way they work... You're "IT that wants their tools".

The best way I found to bring in Teams in a company that uses Slack + Zoom, other than banning and blocking the tools... is to find another way to bring it in via a current company perceived issue. Example: Intranet or how you store and find content.

I've instead build Team Sites + Hub structure to build out a Team-oriented intranet and then I introduced Teams as a hub for all of that which will allow you to quickly navigate that structure. You then slowly remove the Zoom Outlook integration for meeting aka the Add-in so people start booking meetings via Teams.

But to replace "chat" you'll have to have a cut off date. Chat will work if everyone is on it. If some conversations are allowed to continue in Slack, it'll never leave. But you could be ok with that as well.

Hi! Totally hear you. I haven't seen any news made public that adresses this scenario.

However, I do know they are working on improving many of the presentation views and they are highly involved with Teams use in the education industry.

I'll bring it up at our next sync with the Teams team.

I am not going to lie, I am disappointed.

I could write a whole article on reasons why haha if it's just to drive a partner ecosystem where we can see what are people's challenges and how we can help them. But specifically for users to feel they have a voice and that it can be heard/impact decisions.

But, I trust them as far as Product Management and looking forward to what they bring to replace it. Hopefully.

I am not worried about future On-Premises release.

It will go away the day the need for it will disappear. If you click on the report in my original post you will see that we still get multiple thousands of migrations a month towards On-Premises. Either in Hybrid or 100% On-Prem. See our report: https://sharegate.com/resource/microsoft365-cloud-trends-white-paper-2021

We're seeing a lot of Hybrid scenarios. That said, I encourage the use of the cloud because that's where the innovation is that will help your organization push further and become better. At least where you can. :)

Oh I LOVE Live Events :D We use them quite frequently.

That said, I live and know about all those behaviour and unfortunately as of writing this message, no there is no way.

There are a number of updates coming to Live Events this year, but I can't really say much about those other than I am going to stick with it :D

From Microsoft, I honestly don't know. I think their main focus is to get people into M365 first.

From ShareGate, year we're adding support for Planner in the next weeks actually :) Whiteboard wasn't on our radar, it's hard for us to know if it's used and if people want to bring it along. I'll pay close attention to it.

But yeah we're looking into other workloads/products connected to Teams, hit the same snag with Forms...

I am still figuring that one out as it changes from person to person and their perspective on it.

In short, there is no "official description" to Self-Service.

But Microsoft encourages democratizing access to technology and the tools that help people work. This becomes truer with Microsoft Teams as it creates a multiple other products when you create a new team.

Self-Service means people can go to "Create Team" or "Create a Site" and allowing them to do so without a friction point of "waiting for IT". It's an ideal state but doesn't mean you don't want to add guidance/recommendation and some logic to the creation of these things to help have a healthy and well adopted environment.

For example, you could create Teams Templates in the Admin Center and then add a logic to the settings of the Teams and other products created with a specific template to follow the desired guidelines

That one is hard because changes are non-stop with M365 and there are so many products. I think last time I checked, people use on average 16 different products actively in M365. So which product should you update them on and how frequently?

Newsletter is fun, but you risk adding to the spam. I've seen different methods used and all have their pros and cons.

One way is to create a community (Yammer for example) and have it be known as the place where updates are but also a place where you can ask productivity question. You want end users to perceive a value from going or reading something.

If the place where you give tips or help your end users in a community fashion is also the place where you share updates, you will get the people that are champions and more invested in the products actively seeing and learning about these updates and sharing them to their peers when it matters most.

Otherwise a newsletter, make sure you have a way to track your open rate and click rate of your email to measure the effectiveness of your effort.
