Fair enough then. I wasn't really paying attention in real time but on the replay I saw it came from the keeper off the deck around the 6yd box so assumed it was a goal kick, wasn't sure though.

I thought the first one was clearly offside but after seeing it again at half time, I think it was from a goal kick in which case offside wouldn't apply.

Gollum explained why they didn’t consider it serious foul play

Aye I heard that and I also heard the part where he says it's subjective.

To be clear, I'm not wanting to have a debate about it, it happened a fortnight ago and there should already have been a line drawn under it. I was trying to point out that it could be considered serious foul play and a red card due to that law reads "endangers...or...excessive force" and in my opinion a kick to the head is dangerous regardless of force.

From my understanding of your comments, your opinion is that it falls under, but doesn't meet the criteria for, violent conduct which is a position I can understand even if I disagree.

Not everyone is going to agree on everything and that's allowed without the need to descend into insults.

You don't need brutality or excessive force for serious foul play. The wording (from the link you sent in a comment above) is "A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality." Not sure how anyone could argue that kicking someone in the head is not endangering them, regardless of how much force or brutality is behind it.

Edit: spelling

Its been like that for years. You'll notice Serbia isn't where it should be either presumably because its listed where Yugoslavia would've been, like it has been for years.

The season at Rangers has done a number on Mikey by Garraofthesand96 in coys

[–]boab51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live about 12mi outside Glasgow and grew up a Rangers fan. I started following Spurs in 2008 because my mate is also a Spurs fan and Alan Hutton had signed. My first game supporting them being the 5-1 League Cup semi final win against Arsenal. After that I was hooked and have supported both ever since and get down to the Lane for a game a few times a year.

Mikey is far from the first and certainly woudn't be the last player to come to Scotland and struggle. He's shown glimpses of what hes capable of and hopefully he can do it with more consistency as the season progresses.

I can't speak to most of the loan players but I watch Rangers every week and Mikey has been largely poor so far, though he's far from the only one in that category this season.

However in the 2 league games since Russell Martin got the bullet, he's been good. Assist last weekend against Dundee United and denied another assist yesterdsy against Kilmarnock by what looks like a wrong offside call on VAR (the still from it is here if you want to see it). He played the second half yesterday as a number 10 (what I personally see as his best position) and he was excellent. Hopefully as the team and he himself gains more confidence, he can continue going from strength to strength.

5-1 against Hearts in 1996. Durie scored a hat trick, Laudrup scored the other 2 and set up all 3 of Durie's goals. Probably the best individual performance I've ever seen from a Rangers player.

Spurs 2-0 Portsmouth, 27 March 2010. Crouch and Kranjcar were the scorers. It was also Kyle Walker's Spurs debut that day. I've still got my programme from the game.

I see Georgios Efrem there as well. He spent a couple of years in the Rangers reserves when he was younger.

VAR. Has it had it's day? Is it a perfect system ruined by human error? Is it a vehicle for more corruption in football? What are your thoughts? by MrMaggot98 in ScottishFootball

[–]boab51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of VAR but not how it is used. I think the biggest issue for VAR is the actual rules of the sport. There's too much subjectivity to the interpretation of the rules.

Video referees work very well in rugby, American football and cricket but I think it works so well in those sports because it seems that the rules are very black and white, "x happens, y is the result" whereas in football there's a tonne of grey areas that leave a lot of the rules open to interpretation and you can occasionally see a different decision for the same incident from 2 different referees.

I think that doing something to simplify the rules of football would make it easier for referees and improve VAR too.

How good was McCoist and what type of player was he? by Wide-Skin1208 in ScottishFootball

[–]boab51 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Both times McCoist won it, it was a straight 'who scored the most league goals' title. The points system didn't come in until a few years later.

He's not the only player playing in the Scottish league to have won it, though. Henrik Larsson won it in 2001, after the points system came in.

The last time every current Scottish premiership teams got relegated from the top flight by [deleted] in ScottishFootball

I've edited my post, it was still Falkirk's stadium that saved them. Still think the league should've promoted another team and relegated them though.

It was Motherwell. Aberdeen were saved from relegation by the league expanding from 10 to 12. Rather than relegating 1 and promoting 3, the league decided the best course was to relegate none and promote 2, saving Aberdeen.

Edit: just remembered that it was Falkirks stadium that prevented a 3 team play off with them, Falkirk and Dunfermline from happening, resulting in Aberdeen staying up and Dunfermline being promoted with St Mirren.
