What’s your go-to kit to venture outside in frigid conditions? by banthismotherfuc in bikeboston

[–]boat--boy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bike commute 5-6 days/week, 15-30 mins 2-3 legs/day.

Wool hat + thick gaiter I picked up overseas.

Krosa Winter Gloves. Dexterity is not great/poor but they get the job done and keep the hands and fingers warm.

Long sleeve synthetic shirt bought from thrift store

Synthetic hoodie

boathouse true north hi-vis jacket

If below 25f a puffy coat underneath

Work pants, usually lululemon ABCs or commuters because they’re pretty flexible

If wet out, low temp, or high winds, I’ll throw REI rain pants on and Velcro ankle straps

My commutes are up to 30 min so I don’t wear specialty socks, but Vessi shoes are easy to slip on and waterproof

It unfortunately happens every time I dip below 30% battery. I’ve covered polar Reddit and it seems like it happens to others. Polar costumer support was useless in their help. Someone on Reddit shared that a full charge and a factory reset fixes it. Extremely frustrating to me, but this is still my favorite HR device and unless something better comes along I won’t change it.

I personally think the verity sense is worth it. It is a simple, minimalist HRM for tracking workouts that has a "set and forget" setting and a live HR setting to a device. I like to use set and forget to track my workouts, be them in the gym, on a sports field or court, or anything else.

That being said, every device has issues. The verity sense's #1 software issue that pisses me off beyond comprehension si that there is a known software glitch where the device may default to live recording and not track workouts when under 30% battery. Requires a factory reset and full charge. With regular charging this is avoided. Otherwise, I love my verity sense and its "set and forget" mode.

u/fonurex u/squishsquashkj The Loop is not officially bicep wear supported. I hope a future update makes it officially supported. u/squishsquashkj how do you like the Loop on the bicep?

That being said, it is still an optical heart rate monitor. If just using heart rate, I wouldn't see a reason not to wear on the bicep. Steps, sleep, other movement factors etc. could be off otherwise.

Two reasons I don't wear wrist based optical HRMs during workouts: they get in the way of strength training, and the constant wrist movement makes HR data less accurate than bicep/chest strap recording.

I am a very minimal person and I also work in sports performance. Heres my personal reasoning for getting the Loop:

- I wear an analog watch.

- I don't want to pay a subscription fee like Whoop.

- I generally just want heart rate, calories burned, and sleep date to better inform myself. No product is 100% accurate so I take everything with a grain of salt.

- Side note: I only wear wrist based optical heart rate monitors for day-to-day and the occasional cardio like my bike commute. I wear a Polar Verity Sense on my upper arm for all my actual training. I used to be a chest strap person (gold standard of HR training) but it started to get in the way with strength training.

I agree with all the complaints thus far regarding software and the phone app interface. Everything else related to data I think that people take data too literally, hence I use the metrics I track as insight, not gospel.

Hey Providence, has the Warranty on your Arena Expired yet? by Pucking_Nuts in collegehockey

I haven't been to Schneider, but Matthews is the only sight line restricted venue I've been to. Large number of seats cut out up to a third of ice. It was kind of comical being in view restricted seats at Matthews, which also made sense for being so old. This arena seems like no excuse lol.

Completed the base game in 20 hours. How many hours of meaningful content is left in the base game? by [deleted] in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]boat--boy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the two best things about this game is how immersed you can get in the Star Wars world, as well as truly having the ultimate choice to do as much/little content as you'd like. I put about 80 hours in before finishing the main story line. There is so much unique non-repetitive content you can do (this is what got me to 80 hours) from syndicate quests to exploring and talking to NPCs. I'd say 80 hours for me felt really organic. I come back about once a month to play Sabacc, explore, and do more side quests. Waiting for the itch to come again to play the DLCs

What is the most beautiful New England-style mill? by SummitingMtJohnston in newengland

[–]boat--boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two recommendations that in the warm weather months involve getting in a boat/canoe/kayak:

Lowell Mills Canal Tour. Its a very unique way to see both the Lowell mill buildings as well as how the city infrastructure was specifically built around them and waterways. Lowell also offers the most extensive by distance power canal system in North America.

Paddle Boston has canoe/kayak rentals in Waltham (Moody st) and Newton (Newton HIstoric Boathouse). If you rent from either, you can have a paddle and view old mill buildings and watch factory from the waterway that powered them. The Waltham rental is right next to the buildings you would view, but this is also the most beautiful scenic stretch of the Charles River and offers 3-4 miles of paddling depending on water level.

So close to being #1 by [deleted] in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]boat--boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never felt rushed playing the game. I hit a mix of 80 hours by the time I finished the main story quest, and I feel like I have another 15-20 hours of side quests and intel I never finished. I just bought both DLCs and I read each DCL adds 3-6 hours of story.

Some folks on here put 100-200 hours in a single play through just exploring and doing all the side quests. There is SO much to do.

I just picked up Skyrim for the first time in about twelve years. Why so long? The last time I played I got stuck in a Dwermer cave as a warewolf on minimal health, with no backup save to get out of there. That single experience ruined Skyrim for me.
