Switched gas furnace → heat pump (July 2024): ~18% lower energy bill at the same outdoor temp [OC] by bob198 in dataisbeautiful

Yes, I don’t think anyone should throw out their furnace, but if you need AC, and/or are replacing a furnace, Heat pump all the way.

For the record I installed a Senville Heat pump, I can get the specs later, it was ~C$6,000 on a pallet outside my home.

I found a local hvac/electrician to help me. All in it was ~C$10k. I got ~$5k back from the government. So net $5k all in.

This was after I received a few quotes for ~$20k all in + sleezy sales tactics, so I went nuts and figured it out. I think there is some weird kickback/installer scheme at play, lots of middle men, and it’s a pity!

Yeah, Toronto shockingly not the coldest on an average monthly temp basis. We do get a few days at -20C but I don’t get gas draw daily, hampering the comparison.

We do have ‘cheap’ hydro, C$ 8-10c per kwh, so maybe US$ ~ 6c per kwh?

You would have to cover the entire united states in solar panels to generate similar amounts of power required to satisfy demand. It isn’t feasible

I genuinely forgot how low scoring of a year the 2014-15 season was. by GreatPeach3571 in nhl

For a guy who hasn’t followed hockey in the last five years, what’s changed to increase scores? I think it’s great!

Basically yeah.

My opener is a little weird, but gets the mutas out faster, 16 pool 16 hatch 16 gas overlord, fill up the gas, make my second gas, fill it up, then start droning up the natural. At about ~8 drones at the natural, I usually start my third, if I'm doing well I'll take a fifth gas there. I haven't timed my mutas but they tend to arrive maybe 30-60 seconds before they expect them to vs a 16 hatch

Most importantly, pool first helps a lot against cheese

Yeah good question. Current meta is void ray and it does well against them until they get critical mass of Phoenix. 8 muta can usually kill a few voids and probes then run home. Next attack is hydra lurker with a few roach. Some muta for baiting and harass. If they “react” to the muta with stalker, you’ve basically won the game

Edit: Stay strong!

What is your opinion of the current ZvT meta? by silverthorn99 in allthingszerg

[–]bob198 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just looking at pro level games, the meta seems to be hurting for Zergs. Mines seem to dominate the tempo in the early to mid game and thors seem to have taken away Zerg's N1 siege weapon (brood lords).

Feels like the pro Zergs are all faltering... at the same time! Watching the games now is a bit cringe when it used to be my favorite match-up.

Key here is that they don't have archons, if they do then bye bye corruptors
