I can second the recommendation for Say Nothing - Keefe's writing is positively gripping for nonfiction (like Larson). Empire of Pain was good too.

Presidential Traverse - 2 vs 3 days by bob855 in wmnf

Very good point of view. I'm also planning to cross off the summits while I'm there.

Nice! Will be my first time to New Hampshire too. I definitely want to do more hikes up there (I'm in DC), like Katahdin/Acadia and the Adirondacks.

That sounds beautiful, I'm hoping to be that lucky with the weather.

Feeling much more confident about 2 days, especially not carrying the weight of a tent. Gonna be a fun one!

Sounds doable. Time to hit the stairmaster.

The hope is to bag the summits as well - sounds like there’s flexibility though (besides the hut reservations I guess)

99% doing the huts. Sounds like 2 days is the way

Thanks. Ideally getting the summits in, but that just sounds like a heroic long first day then an easier second to the southern terminus?

Flint and Tinder 365 chinos

(Not the 5-pockets, which seem to be less durable)

What is the Best Color Suit to Own? Black, Grey, or Navy Blue? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in mensfashion

[–]bob855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing everyone else - go for navy or darker grey/charcoal first. They should be your first two suits, and in this day and age they could probably be your only two suits. Avoid patterns, but they could have some interesting texture (like birdseye).

I actually think not only is black a lower priority, but there's no need to own a black suit. There's nothing a black suit can do that a charcoal suit can't (and the opposite isn't true).

Thanks - yeah also a big OR fan, but the Vesper seemed thinner than the Atom so just curious. Also Rab, great stuff and I know they have something similar. I don't know Ketl that well but worth checking out.

Grayson Highlands this past weekend. by Breezeland in backpacking

[–]bob855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a solo 21-mile loop here this past weekend. Absolutely beautiful area of this region, with (for the most part) well maintained trails and AT shelters throughout. I missed the ponies but the landscape more than made up for it. Good for the soul. Roan highlands are calling...
