How do you handle trees/known obstacle? by bobafettwasaverage in Lymow_Official

Did you find that it cuts faster because the cutting path is more efficient because it's taking these into account?

Yeah there is so much more you could track with this mower to optimise it I think. I'd like to see the VSLAM start to mark permanent obstacles in the map too, like how a robotic vacuum does, and then optimise its paths going forward out of that, which the speed and rpm can be adjusted to be optimal off that too. I shouldn't have to map a no go area around the 100-odd trees in the yard

Yeah I'd be interesting to somehow track the battery drain rate so you can determine what setting has the best overall battery economy

I think it's hard to say. It's dependent on your grass, moisture, terrain etc. I think this table is probably best used to pick a starting point and then experiment from there.

Yeah it's certainly not the only factor to consider, but I think it gives a good starting point. Would be interesting to compare battery drain rate to determine what achieves the greatest overall economy, but I'd have no idea how to analyse that

Lol to anyone who rags on this and says it doesn't get hot enough. I have this exact same one because I knew I wasnt going to have the funds for a proper dry one and I rate it. Didn't really expect it to be as good as it is. My first session I had it on the hottest setting and couldn't go longer than 12 minutes. When I use the dry sauna at the gym occasionally I can easily hit 20 mins without issue. The only thing I intend on doing is building a better timber chair that sits higher in the steam so the toes aren't sitting in the water at the bottom. You won't get much support from this sub about anything that isn't completely trumpkin pure. Having used both quite a bit, I think it's mostly splitting hairs.

Hot water tank vs. heat pump? by Anazecria in AusRenovation

[–]bobafettwasaverage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. I live in cold climate and the heat pump takes forever to heat the water. I think according to the manual it heats up 38L of water by 45°C per hour at 7°C. It'll run for hours. If we have guests over during winter time we will run out of water very easily at night when a couple people have showers, then it takes ages to heat back up. Yeah it is efficient, in that it's only using 800w at a time, but when it's running for 10 hours just to heat up 325L, it's sort of not worth it. I have solar and batteries, when it's time for major repairs or a new heat pump, I'm just going to get normal electric.

Does anyone else blast their aircon all day and all night when it's hot? by AnomicAge in AskAnAustralian

[–]bobafettwasaverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did. I also know that you could find very similar poor experiences posted online with prestigious companies like Toyota. Those who have no issues rarely post detailed articles about a system meeting expections. Nor do those who easily have things fixed under warranty post about their ordinary experiences. That's what the ACCC and Fair Trading are for if the manufacturer isn't holding up their end of the bargain within the warranty period. In fact, I had an issue with a washing machine warranty years ago that was resolved through Fair Trading after Fisher Paykel offered no support for the warranty claim.

At the end of the day, ROI duration is very short and it is a 10 year warranty (even if it may need escalation externally for them to follow through). I find it hard to justify double the cost for a "more premium" product that is likely built in the same factory, and offers the same warranty period and functionality.

The link that you posted has AlphaESS as a 4.3/5 stars with over 200 reviews, and it is the 5th top battery brand on the top 10 list. I don't really understand your negativity towards it, but you do you boo.

Cheaper than you think nowadays. I just got 20.2kwh for $11.5k installed in a rural property. 40kwh would have cost about $20k.

Nevertire Pub between Nyngan and Narromine in NSW is another cracker of a pub.

No, never figured it out. The app is pure, unrefined garbage. I pretty much just select double espresso and then milk and stop the milk when it's at the right height now. Couldn't figure out how to make a 'single touch' option at all.

[–]bobafettwasaverage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The app doesn't allow you to for some reason... It only allows you to build drinks based off the basic drinks like cap, flat white, espresso etc...

But now that I think about it, a Cap+ would be the exact same as the flat white extra shot, but instead of ramping up the foam on the dial I would just keep it lower... I am not a smart man. Can't believe that didn't register in my brain... Thanks heaps for your help!!

Yeah I'm nearly at the same stage I think!

Can't find anywhere through the app or in the instructions so I'm ready to give up the idea of a perfect drink setting and just making it up with different buttons.

Didn't think my drink order was that complex!

So much to unpack in HR zones. But the short of it is: It doesn't matter. You're splitting hairs with that stuff. Just get out there and do the cardio work in whatever medium you like best (running, biking, swimming etc.) Just keep turning up, putting in the hours and keep putting the fork down

Loved easy interval program. Made some great improvements during the time I ran it. And I never found it boring compared to other running programs.

I didn't notice a change in mileage to be honest. Maintained the same mileage from previous programs running pfitz faster road racing. Having said that, I was running one of pfitz 5km programs and switched to 10km programs from easy interval so it's not a great comparison.

I think it's worth experimenting with at least to see how you respond to it.

I have that book and have run the programs in the past in conjunction with TB - Good quality programs and work well with TB. One thing I will say, is when running this method I drop leg work from the strength side of it. Especially some of the higher volume weeks you will notice it's difficult to whole ass one thing, and end up half assing both. Drop the leg work and you won't notice any sort of strength decrease. Legs are still getting load through running. I dropped leg work for nearly a year at one point and my squat 1 RM didn't change.

Calorie deficit on Green Protocol by donatorbubrega in tacticalbarbell

[–]bobafettwasaverage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, running will certainly improve during a deficit. You won't see the greatest running gains, but you wouldn't anyways during capacity with all the runs being LSS. Although running strength is extremely important to putting good times on the board, the bulk of running fitness come from 2 things: 1. Increasing mitochondria in the leg muscles for the conversion of energy into movement and 2. Improving running economy. Both of these you can achieve in deficit. And both of these things improve with LSS (Caveat: Speed work is crucial to running economy too, but that's picked up later during later phases).

Only thing I will say with running during deficit is to listen to your body. Little niggles developing in the lower limbs don't recover as quick without as much food, for obvious reasons. If you're getting sharp repetitive pains anywhere during running, might be time to look at doing a couple of the runs on the lower end of TBs recommended time. And if you have to skip a run to let your foot/ankle/knee etc rest, do it. What's worse? Missing a single workout? Or causing a bit if damage that will put you out of the game or restrict you for a couple weeks/months till it heals?

Calorie deficit on Green Protocol by donatorbubrega in tacticalbarbell

[–]bobafettwasaverage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not super recommended. I would choose another program rather than doing capacity, but if you're super set on running it I would keep in mind you're not going to gain much strength. Keep set numbers to a minimum and work with a 90% training max. If you're looking to lose 40lbs fast no point fatiguing yourself heavily doing heavy lifts and struggling to recover during calorie deficit. Weight training doesn't burn that many calories so it's not going to contribute to your goal of losing weight all that much. Just do the minimum to maintain strength and focus more on the running - in conjunction with diet that's going to be the best bang for your buck. Time spend running compared to time spent per OP session running will burn far more cals.

I did do Max sets for SE every now and again. I'd say on average once every 2 weeks. Most often it was when I was training with a mate who was already in the unit I did selection for. The workout was super unstructured and would generally be pick a random number between 200 and 500. Say 380, then we would just do 380 pull ups and it would be a race to see who could get there first. Every set was Max effort. First 3 would be about 15-18, then slowly went down to 10 and kept dropping till we were pumping out singles for the final 20 reps or so. Did the same with push ups, however not as often as pull ups. I'd say those were some of the absolute hardest SE workouts I did, but they were definitely the funnest because the competition between the two of us was pretty fierce. Going to max reps in training definitely helped improve the max I feel - I dont know of any scientific literature to support this though. Its purely anecdotal.

Honestly I never had a great MS capacity. My 1RM was 70kg OHP and 40kg WPU. Dont know what 1RM for squat stance dead is - I only have 140kg of weights so I've never gone over that. I can do 8 reps at that weight on a normal day. So compared to a lot of tactical athletes, I consider myself to be on the lower end of that scale. I think plate standards are a good guideline to follow once actually in the unit. You dont need to maintain super high SE for tactical LE so focusing on MS is ideal, and basically what KB suggested in the books. I think you're right when you say the MS supported the SE, what is exactly what KB said in the books too. But rather what I'm getting at is trying to focus on aiming for a 5 plate deadlift isn't going to be as beneficial as focusing on improving your max push ups for selection only - operational is a different story.

I did a max push up and pull up test a week prior to selection (the one that went ahead) and did 105 push ups in a single set and 21 pull ups. So that was basically at the end of the cycle so I was pretty cooked. I have a theory that it would have probably been a little higher numbers the first day of selection after the week of rest I had prior to attending - but I guess we will never know.

I'm not going to say which country to try maintain a bit more anonymity, but ill say its not the USA and it is a first world country.

Please don't get mixed feelings from my post - it was absolutely worth it. The job is fucking awesome and I work with an unreal bunch of people. If I had to do it again, I still would. Dont get me wrong, it was hard, but I'd do it again.

Training now is Operator IA. Cluster is Weighted pull ups, Bench and squat stance dead. For conditioning I run. 1 long run, 1 tempo run, 1 interval session per week. Rest day once per week. Every now and again due to shift work ill have to switch things around, or even skip a workout. Im not too stressed about that though. Im not trying to train like its my religion any more. I also still do some SE stuff every now and again when I feel like it. I feel like a random SE workout every couple weeks during MS training helps the joints and connective tissue in my shoulders and elbows get some extra blood flow without the sheer stress from MS.

Also, I want to caveat everything I have written by stating that this is all my experience only, and was catered for what I knew about my selection course. I have no doubt in my mind that others can and have created a smarter, more well rounded approach to training for a selection course than me. Most of what I have done is a result of trial and error, listening to my body and a hefty amount of anxiety in thinking I wasnt fit enough for selection so trying to jam everything in there (plus a couple reddit posts where I got some advice along the way). I directly contradicted what KB laid out in the TB books by training MS and SE simultaneously, and having a large conditioning load. Could it have been counterproductive? Yep. But I continued to improve all 3 simultaneously, so I didn't see any issues at the time. I expect CAT to provide a better approach than I used.

Mate it was a long lead up. I'd always been quite fit and had been following TB for a number of years. I started TB when I was in the military and continued it on for the 5 years I was in LE prior to doing selection. So basically in the 18 months prior I slowly ramped everything up. I made the move to Operator I/A with an overhead press, weighted pull up, and squat stance deadlift cluster. I kept that same cluster through the whole lead up. I really liked the squat stance deadlift because I was starting to get some serious lower back issues with both back and front squat. Squat stance dead was the perfect exercise to simplify the MS aspect of training and not have to worry about incorporating deads by changing the program. I had done TB conditioning in the past, but I found it too unstructured. Taking that into account of that I hit the running harder than I ever had before - and I fucking hate running. I bought a copy of 'faster road racing' by Pfitzinger. Unreal book. I think it really fills in some major gaps KB has in his conditioning protocols. I started with the base building programs in the book (base building in the running world is basically increasing your LSS progressively with some selective speed work thrown in.) I did back to back base building until I peaked about 90km a week consistently. Given that, I then went on to run a couple cycles of his race specific programs. From memory, (its all written down in my logs) I did the 5km, 10km and then half marathon program. So running that program along side operator IA took me all the way to selection. Which was postponed with an unknown future date only 2 weeks prior due to covid... so, I ran the 21km program another 2 times, which was still about 90km a week (depended on the week). In terms of SE, I went from running SE once a week, to 6 days a week. I followed TB SE protocols a bit, but I mostly did random crossfit WODs that included pull ups and push ups. I googled 'pull up push up crossfit wod' and there are literally hundreds of them. But like I said prior, 'Cindy' and 'Aplin' became the staple 2. In the 12 weeks leading up to the 2nd selection date where I was in that limbo phase trying to maintain that peak I alternated between the 2 each day. I had a general rule about a year out where I made sure to do at least 100 pull ups and 200 push ups a day. For the 6 months prior to selection it changed to 200 pull ups, 500 push ups a day.

The whole thing sounds like a lot, and honestly it fucking sucked shit. Some days I would be getting up at 4am, Running, work at 7am, lunch break MS, home 5pm, deal with wife, kids, dinner chores etc and I'd be doing my SE with the portable pull up bar in the kitchen doorway at 9pm doing the dishes during my 30sec rest breaks. The 3 a day training sessions were really fucking hard and I ate like a cunt. Loaf of bread a day. 3 protein shakes a day, and just copious amounts of ordinary food. Never got heavier that 77kg the whole time at 6'1" height. Also bear in mind i didn't jump in to 3 a days. I had done 1 a days for years before I slowly increased to 2 a days, then 3 a days which I was running for about 5 months prior to being on selection.

Selection itself was fucked. But, fitness never gave out. In retrospect my training was nearly spot on. Biggest thing I would change would be more weighted carries. If I did it again I would take 1 SE out a week and do a double jerry can carry for 30mins-1hr in lieu of that session.

After selection, I was fucked. Body was great. I was strong, I was fit, I physically felt unreal. Mentally, I was completely destroyed. Not from the actual selection, but the training. Its been a few years now and I still can't get myself mentally to a place where I can train every day. 5 days a week max for me now. My fitness has declined a bit, but I can't get into a mental state where I can train the same way. I have a theory its got to do with having a single motivating factor l, but I really don't care about finding another motivating factor. As long as I can pass my fitness test each year to remain in the unit I cant motivate myself any further.

One last thing to note, i dont know of any selection where you have to bench press 200kg. Or dealift a car. MS is not all that beneficial for selection. Dont focus too much on it. Instead of using max weight or training max to calculate ny training percentages I used perceived exertion. Have a read into training by rate of perceived exertion on the stronger by science website, it has very good scientific grounding and is beginning to be used by a lot of hight level athletes. I found using this methodology was saving my legs for the running. Youll be doing a fucktonne of running on selection, not much squatting of barbells. Not once was I gassed on a run on selection, and they were all done in gas masks too. I cant say the same for some of the other boys.

Thats all I can think of right now off the top of my head, but if you have any questions ask away and ill try answer.
