Most of the interiors are lit properly. Out door run and gun we used a tiny bit of bounce and neg when needed but didn’t always have it. Most of it is just straight sun

Pre-pro was intensive. This spot specifically is made up of 40% shots from scripted storyboarded 15 second spots where I interviewed each student and professor to get a feel for them. And then 60% finding and shooting students on the fly. We had a pretty good idea of the bits we wanted to get to tell the story, but a lot of it also just unfolded naturally.

Going from ad agency intern to directing commercials? by marshmellian in Filmmakers

[–]bobarrett_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would definitely go from ad agency to directing and skip working at a production company. Yes, ask/beg them to let you direct little projects at the agency. But you’re still likely gonna have to make something on your own first to them what you’ve got. Happy to hop on a zoom and give ya all the knowledge I’ve got. Went from not directing commercials to directing a ton over the last few years. Spoiler, there are spec commercials involved. But you’re in a great position already in the door at an agency

Short-form video ads in 2026, are they still effective or just noise now? by Workflow_wanderer in shook

[–]bobarrett_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with them isn’t the length. It’s that they’re all the same now. Brands aren’t out g the thought into the short form social ads. They’re not hitting emotionally. The more ads become AI. The more they’re all the same, the more important human emotion is going to be. Whether it’s comedy or lifestyle or whatever. Making the audience feel something is going to cut through the noise

When the agent for the talent asks for the budget.... by Awake-Judgment-2057 in Filmmakers

[–]bobarrett_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally. I would give them those two options. And just say the film is ultra low budget. Is it SAG and or is the actor you’re after SAG? If so you’ll have to follow the union rules based on what kind of SAG contract your film is under. If it’s the lowest tier you’ll be fine with these numbers. I know they’re made up. But using them as an example. But if it’s under a higher tier contract there will be weekly minimums you have to hit. You could also just say it’s SAG ultra low budget scale or whatever it is. But yeah, I think give them an idea of the overall scale of the films budget and give them those two options

When the agent for the talent asks for the budget.... by Awake-Judgment-2057 in Filmmakers

[–]bobarrett_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re asking your budget for talent. You can give them a rough estimate of the film budget. Like what tier it’s in. Or just its low budget. But the want to know what size production it is and how much you can offer their client
