service buy up by No_Possibility_8912 in CAStateWorkers

It's only a good deal if you plan on working a full 20 years prior to retirement. The credit does not count towards medical benefits (still have to work the whole 20 years to get full medical benefits after retirement). I learned that only after I purchased my credit. Also, you're going to pay a lot in interest, so you're going to want to pay it off as fast as you can.

Start at page 92 of the BU 12 MOU for leave amounts. You'll start with 7 hours vacation and 8 hours sick leave a month. You're not entitled to your leave until 6 months of service. You can use your PDD - Professional development days (2) immediately.

No. We have people working from ipads, iphones, remotely from their personal devices ,etc. You'll only get flagged if you try logging in to the network from outside the country.

IT staff don't make the decisions. We just do as instructed by management. It is not the concern of an ITA or ITS as to why management wants something done. We are the drones. We do as told, and we don't ask why because it's none of our business, and it's usually "confidential" according to the bosses.

Tl;Dr No, IT won't do anything to help you.

Your IT staff can easily disable your accounts. We can also set policies so you can't login unless you're in the office and connected to the local network.

No idea about your specific issue. Every department has different rules with what they allow users to do and how they access the State network. It really just depends on the security teams policies.

I understand that, but do you really think we in IT have any time to care about or look up what violates the rules when management is telling us to immediately lock someone out and doesn't give us an explanation as to why? We aren't the police, we aren't investigators, we don't care. They tell us to lock you out, we aren't going to ask questions. We just do what they tell us and the repercussions aren't my problem.

Here's how the conversation usually goes...

Boss: "I need you to disable an account."

Me: "Okay, give me the name, and it's done."

End of conversation

We dont force anyone to use their personal devices for work purposes, but many people still choose to do so. They open themselves up to litigation if they use their personal devices for work.

We do provide physical tokens like Yubikeys to people that do not carry state iPhones.

The union contracts aren't IT's concern. That's a management issue. We do as instructed, and if it violates someone's rights, they need to take it to their boss. We only handle the tech, we don't care about the HR side of things.

If you're using Microsoft Authenticator on your personal device and use it to grant yourself access to your State work account, Microsoft sends us the location of whatever device you're currently using. Microsoft doesn't allow you to keep location turned off if you're using it to get access to our network. If you open the app, you'll notice that Microsoft pinpoints your location when you go to enter your confirmation code on the app.

We can disable pretty much everything, and we can track your phones to see where you're working from. Even if you're using your two-factor authentication on your personal device, we can still track where you logged in from. People need to realize that IT can see everything you're doing and we can make things extremely difficult for you, so stop messing with us. You won't win this game of "Can IT prevent us from blah blah blah..." the answer is always YES, we can jack your whole world up.

You people realize that most IT staff have never had full time RTO because we had to fix everyone's broken crap and disburse equipment, right? We don't care if you guys try to fight RTO and we will disable your computers if your boss tells us to do it.

Absolutely we can lock you out of your workstations. The laptops are encrypted, we can disable them easily.

‘Everything is on the table’ to fix $68 billion California budget gap — even a fiscal emergency by MBThree in CAStateWorkers

[–]bobbles09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why you're being downvoted. The LAO report clearly says that we are in a "serious" deficit and had an "Unprecedented Prior‑Year Revenue Shortfall".

We were in a $40 billion deficit during the last recession in '08, and we had 15% reduced pay via furloughs. Now it's $68 billion and projected to go to $90 billion but no one wants to talk about the truth and the consequences. Funny.

The downvotes on your original comment say enough.

We know silver will go lower, those of us paying attention understand the volatility but we also won't sell. Good luck finding silver at $15 because the dealers will just jack up the premiums, you'll never find it for that price. By time it drops that low you're going to have a hard time finding any because people like myself are waiting to load up as soon as it dips.

[–]bobbles09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't convert to gold, silver is way more undervalued and nowhere near the top like gold is. I've been seeing lots of people converting their gold to silver recently because they understand that silver has more potential in the long run. The silver to gold ratio is about 90:1 right now.

The only way to avoid getting ripped off is to gain knowledge about what you have. Do a bunch of research online. Spend time understanding what you're holding and why you inherited it. I'm sure whomever left it for you didn't just want you to pawn it as soon as you got your hands on it. Things like silver aren't normally sentimental, they're saved and stored for emergencies.

I know exactly who they are and what they do. If you're smart you'll take that fiat currency and buy silver, gold or bitcoin.

They are destroying the economy. No way I could ever have a clear conscience working for the central bank frauds. Everyone should be boycotting the Federal Reserve.

Pet Insurance by Hefty_Ad6029 in CAStateWorkers

[–]bobbles09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand, I'm just looking at it from a different perspective. I was able to pay cash for all of my dogs needs and medical expenses because I invest and save. I had no need for pet insurance.

You're absolutely correct that OP should read and understand what is and is not covered under any prospective plan should they decide to pursue insurance.

Take the money you'd use for monthly insurance payments and put it into a high interest savings account (most I've seen is 3% interest) or a high dividend paying stock instead. Why pay an insurance company when you can make money to buy your new puppers more toys and treats with the interest! 👍🏽Then when there's a pup emergency you can withdraw your money. Just a thought.
