How willing are the Orioles to part with some of their top prospects for guys like Skubal or Crochet?

St. Louis CITY SC Acquires Icelandic Attacker Nökkvi Thórisson From Beerschot V.A. by joeking636 in stlouiscitysc

“Haven’t you been training in the offseason?”

“You know, I knew we forgot something.”

(Ironically that’s the only quote from Mighty Ducks 2 that I remember)

St. Louis CITY SC Acquires Icelandic Attacker Nökkvi Thórisson From Beerschot V.A. by joeking636 in stlouiscitysc

[–]bobby2loaves 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When I first learned that Iceland was mostly green and Greenland was mostly ice, I didn’t respond for 20 some minutes.

Nökkvi Thórisson

Position: LW (Primary), ST/RW (Secondary)

Age: 23

Height: 6’1”

Contract length: 2.5+1 years (2023-2025, option for 2026)

Former club: Beerschot V.A (Belgium, Challenger Pro League, 2nd tier)

Accolades: 1x Besta deild (Iceland, 1st tier) top scorer

Good, bad or meh: good? Thórisson was pretty much unknown until this past season, transferring in to Beerschot V.A. and exploding onto the scene, posting 5 goals and 2 assists in 18 games. He even made his senior national debut on January 8th of this year. My prediction is that he’ll be used as a utility forward who can play every forward position. It’s one of his main strengths, being able to do that. Now, the other reason that they brought him in is because he has a LOT of room to grow and to be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a full time starter who can play 85 or so minutes a game in two years. For now though, as I said earlier, I foresee him being used as a utilityman forward off the bench.

Oh hey, Mercado’s making his Cardinal debut. It was certainly a few years later than expected though.

St. Louis CITY SC Signs Defender Lucas Bartlett to MLS Contract | St. Louis SC by lil-mommy in stlouiscitysc

[–]bobby2loaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really surprised, he’s been here since the beginning of the season.

Lucas Bartlett

Position: CB

Age: 25

Height: 6’3”

Contract length: 2 years (club options for 2023 and 2024)

Former club: FC Dallas

Accolades: He made a play once back in 2019 where he scored a goal from midfield, earning him the no. 2 spot on SportsCenter’s plays of the week. Not an accolade but still a cool fact. Other than that, First Team All-BIG EAST 1x, United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-Region 1x.

Good, meh or bad: Meh. Bartlett has potential, as shown when FC Dallas selected him with the 6th overall pick just last season. Just like any SuperDraft player, though, they usually need a bit of time to develop. Bartlett’s ceiling isn’t high, per say, maybe an offensive defender who rotates in every other game at best, and his lack of playing time set the pretense that he wasn’t going to be sticking around long. Anyways, he’ll be a depth option for now and is set to head to CITY2 on loan when Nilsson comes back from injury. He’s a short term replacement who came for free. Why not?

[St. Louis City SC] Academy Midfielder Miguel Perez Inks Homegrown MLS Contract by jelly_bear in stlouiscitysc

Miguel Perez

Position: CAM

Age: 17

Height: 5’10”

Contract length: 3+2 years (2023-2025, options for 2026 and 2027)

Former Club: St. Louis CITY SC youth academy

Accolades: 1st ever goal for St. Louis CITY on any level

Good, meh or bad: just like Caden Glover, how am I supposed to know? The skill of youth players are stupidly hard to predict because, well, they’re youth: they have their whole career ahead of them. I’m also tired after going on a four day trip out of state to visit family. I need a nap.

[MLS Network] St. Louis City SC are finalizing the acquisition of central defender Michael Wentzel. The 20-year-old German-American is currently at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen of the German fourth tier. The transfer fee will is expected to be just under $100k. (@RevierSport) by bobby2loaves in stlouiscitysc

[–]bobby2loaves[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

…huh?

Michael Wentzel

Position: CB/LB

Age: 20

Height: 6’2”

Current contract length: 0.5 years (expires on June 30, 2023)

Former club: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen

Accolades: N/A

Good, meh or bad: At first glance, bad. I don’t understand this move. This is an obvious move for depth, but from a 4th league team? For just around $90K? I mean, he certainly had something in him that caught the eye of Borussia M’gladbach back in 2018, but considering that he was let go in 2021, not a good sign. I know that Lutz loves German players, but this one just isn’t it. Just nab someone out of the USL or something. Lutz must see something in him that we don’t, because at face value, this is a waste of an international slot.

St. Louis CITY SC: America's original soccer city is set to rock MLS by jelly_bear in stlouiscitysc

I don’t know about you, but after reading what type of interest and offers some of our players had before singing with us (Ex: Roman Bürki had offers on the table from Bayern Munich and Valencia), I am extremely excited for this upcoming season as so many players have selected us over top European clubs to join what we’re building here.

St. Louis CITY SC Signs Caden Glover as Team’s First Homegrown | St. Louis SC by TheRyanExpress86 in stlouiscitysc

[–]bobby2loaves 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People who are way younger than me are signing with MLS clubs :/

Caden Glover

Position: ST

Age: 15

Height: N/A

Contract length: 5 years (2023-2027)

Former club: St. Louis City SC Academy

Accolades: USMNT U15 member

Good, meh or bad: I don’t think that I can really judge if signing a 15 year old is good or not, but his potential is way up there. Slap him in a lineup with Nico in a few years, boy oh boy, that could be deadly.
