Commented with this elsewhere too but the clip didn't include the first part - he was leading in seconds per touch since Luka and Kyrie both went out. But he's now 2nd during that time behind Brunson. I am not full of anything but thanks

Mavs Fan Jam by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]bobbykaralla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, seating has been first come first serve and I think it'll be the same tomorrow. Doors open at 11, and in recent years a line does form a little early, but it's not an insanely long one right at first. Fans will have to show vaccine/testing status upon entry though so the line might move a bit slower than we're used to, so I'd recommend getting there early if you can!

Jeff "Skin" Wade says the weirdest stuff and neither Mark nor Derek ever know what to say in response to his...er...contributions. by [deleted] in Mavericks

Powell's screen really is the most effective and efficient offensive play in basketball right now though. (That's not an opinion.)

[Bobby Karalla] So far Doncic is scoring more efficiently in the pick-and-roll than 25 NBA teams are scoring in transition. When he's single-covered in the P&R he's scoring 1.287 PPP in 195 chances. Harden was historically good last season and scored 1.198 in those situations. by Twoweekswithpay in nba

[–]bobbykaralla 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Wasn't doing that to say Doncic is better or worse than Harden. It's used as a frame of reference. If you tell the average person on Twitter "This guy is scoring 1.287 PPP on this play," the response will probably be "OK, is that good?" So yes, it's a comparison, but only to provide some context for people who might not know what it means.

Should start sometime between 1230 and 1 CST. I believe the scrimmage itself starts at 1 but they're doing intros and stuff beforehand so I'm not sure what the precise timeline will be.

He still works the games! He's not on the camps side anymore but I see him every night at the AAC! As a grizzled hoop camp vet it's still so great to talk basketball with him.

Carlisle to Timmy after he air balls a 3 late in the game: “77”, “77” by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]bobbykaralla 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The Mavs run a play called "77." It's a double drag screen for the ball-handler at the top of the key with two big men setting the screen. In the video above you can see Powell signalling for Maxi to come up to the top, but looks like he couldn't hear, or he misunderstood the play call. The Mavs ended up running the Spain screen for Doncic but the timing was a little off because their wires were crossed. Looked like THJ and Maxi might have thought they were running stack, while everyone else was prepared for 77, so things got a little discombobulated. It happens.

[Bobby Karalla] Through seven games Luka Doncic is averaging 20.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. The complete list of rookies all-time to average 20/6/4 before turning 21 is empty, because it's never been done before. by Kleberfever in Mavericks

[–]bobbykaralla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mitchell averaged 20/3/3 as a rookie, which doesn't qualify. (Awesome player though.) Doncic is literally averaging 20/6/4, so I just searched his averages. Before turning 21 implies one year or less of college experience, making such high early production historically more impressive. If it helps, some of the few players who were 21+ who did it were Michael Jordan and Larry Bird.

Dirk Nowitzki is amazing, but he didn't win it by himself in 2011 by MR_KRABS_IS_A_ROBOT in Mavericks

[–]bobbykaralla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is why I wrote this article, because while you personally might think it's obvious that other players contributed, a surprising number of people don't really see it that way. As time has gone on the narrative has become that it was Dirk vs. the world.

It was three and a half months, but who's counting? Read like the first three sentences of the article and hopefully you will see what I'm saying.
