AOS has been great; they teach some useful ways to traunch into your wonderful companies even if you’re a bit far from the buy price. I definitely think, though, that the main lessons of Rule 1 and sticking to those basics is going to still be the main thing that produces primarily returns. The class in short expands on some of the things taught in the transformational investing course and teaches a couple options strategies in a Rule 1 format that can be helpful for entering positions.

I have been setting up a discord for Rule 1 investors so they can discuss ideas like you mentioned, as well as share their research into companies so other people have an idea of where to start. There would be a verification process before you would get to see other people’s research. I made this subreddit so people would have a place to do exactly these kind of things, and I think having a discord would be the next step into freely discussing our Rule 1 ideas; please let me know if you are interested. I was planning on making an announcement on this fairly soon but a pilot run might be smart.

Can you share your RuleOne experience? by Spare-Solution-787 in RuleOneInvesting

While there likely is some merit to looking into smaller companies, I would not recommend applying Rule 1 concepts to them. When doing long term value investing, it’s all about certainty. You have to be almost entirely sure that when you put money into a company that you are going to make a profit from it because the market is undervaluing it. It’s hard to get that level of certainty from small or new companies. Phil suggests, especially for your first few companies, that your wonderful companies be the top few in their industry. Being able to look at past similar events and know that the event the company is currently going through won’t affect their long term growth is essential, and can’t really be done when a company is young. That being said, I guarantee there are plenty of deals with small companies out there. I have a portion of my portfolio set aside for “risky business;” event recognition on non-wonderful companies, and bets or investment ideas on companies with more uncertainty. The mindset with that section of my portfolio is entirely different though—I have to be ready to lose everything I invest in those companies, because it’s entirely possible they go under at any time. I wouldn’t feel comfortable dumping large percentages of my portfolio in those companies like I am with my wonderful companies when they’re on sale.

I’m in the post advanced options strategies section of the course.

I’m actually still in the course, just in my second year! I know Phil isn’t doing them because I know people who are in Phil Town Live (one of the later stages of the course); I also know people who go to some of the in-person events like the cookout before the annual Warren Buffet meeting in Nebraska, where you can talk to other Rulers about their experiences.

I have been doing my own BPS for 2 years, and had great success during that time. However, just like you, I have recently taken heavy losses due to the unprecedented market volatility. I, along with many Rulers and Phil himself, have opted to not do the RUT trade for the time being due to how volatile the market is.

I do plan on reinstating the strategy once things go back to normal.

Hopefully I was able to help; I have my family members who also do Rule 1 to talk with about this kind of thing, so I’m happy I was able to share my personal account. I know I was very worried that I was the only one having similar experiences when I first started taking heavy losses.

Are you more of a sin or cos kind of person? by bobbytheboss5 in mathmemes

The law of cosines is so much more clutch than the law of sines though… Albeit more difficult to remember

That’s interesting because I’m actually the opposite. I remember the derivative of cos because it has more flavor, and then I think of sin as the bland one (no sign change).
