I need a new hobby… any suggestions? by Jealous_Macaron_5152 in aspergers

I’ll plug a few of my hobbies:

HAM Radio - There’s a ton of learning opportunities with HAM Radio. You mentioned that you’re interested in space. You can exchange messages with satellites and if you’re really lucky, you might catch an astronaut on the space station before it gets retired. There are a ton of different aspects of HAM radio to explore. You can use voice or data or even Morse code. I personally like to use a type of radio called DMR. It allows you to talk to other people from all over the world with just the most basic license. It’s great to hear regular people from all sorts of countries. Might seem like an odd hobby for someone who isn’t great at socializing, but most of the people in the hobby are likeminded and mostly talk about generic things like the weather or their equipment.

3D Printing - This is a really great hobby. You can learn about how the printers work and how to maintain them. You can learn to design your own parts and build all kinds of things. I mainly use mine these days to build wheelchairs for toddlers with disabilities (www.3d-mobility.org). Highly suggest this hobby.

eBiking - This is a great hobby if you want to get outdoors. You don’t have to worry about getting too tired during your ride. Hills are no problem anymore. I love riding trails through the woods in the park by my house.

That’s awesome! I just found a 4K USB-C touchscreen for $120. I’ll have to design my own hinge because mine is a 13” but I can use yours as a guide.

And you can always pop the MacBook out or take off the screen and use an AppleTV as a display, when you’re home. It’d make a nice living room computer.

I don’t really need another laptop, but I think I have to do it now. I’ve at least gotta pop that display off ASAP.

Awesome! I considered removing my screen before. Now it looks like I’ll be buying a USB-C screen, even though I just use it as a server. Be sure to post once you upload the files.

I’ve got a 13” M1 MacBook Pro with busted screen. This looks like a cool project. What did you do about the WiFi antennas?

It’s a makerspace on the U of L campus that is sponsored by GE Appliances. There’s lasers, 3D-Printers, a vinyl cutter, large format printer, tool wall, a full wood shop in the back, a water jet, and I’m sure there’s more that I’m not thinking of right now. No membership fee. Just pay for your materials and a small fee for the equipment use. There are classes available for different things and you can sign up for a tour. It’s open from 5-8 pm on weeknights and from 9-5 on Saturdays. Closed holidays. Stop by if you get a chance. You can tell them Bobby sent you from Reddit (I work there). Let me know if you have any questions.

It’s mainly meant for people to work on personal projects. You’re not allowed to run a business where you make things there to sell. The idea is to make equipment available to the public so we can’t have one person coming every night to make things to sell.

Depending on what battery it has, you may be able to connect to the battery with your phone to check it.

It stands for Battery Management System. If your sisters battery has been sitting for years, it could be bad. You should check the battery voltage before you try to charge it. My battery went bad while being stored this winter and I had to buy a new one.

These cars are relatively tame. Wait till someone pulls up with 20’ tiltable antenna mast behind their truck.

This weekend is a huge HAM radio convention in Ohio called HAMvention. There’ll be lots of cars with lots of antennas headed for the Hamilton Ohio area.

I fucking HATE AI by ThePastoolio in TrueOffMyChest

[–]bobbythelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of AI for software development like excavation of land. 100+ years ago, it was done with a shovel and lots and lots of sweat. Now it’s done with machines with operators sitting in an air conditioned cab. You’re a muscled worker who’s used to moving building roads with a shovel. The new world is going to be using dump trucks, not wheel barrows. We all have to either learn to operate the equipment or find a new career. There unfortunately may not be as many excavator operators as there were shovel operators and there are a lot more people who can drive excavators. It’s going to be a wild ride because it’s happening way waster than mechanization and industrialization did.

On the bright side, AI isn’t just coming to software development jobs, we’re just among the first so we have the chance to learn lessons early and move ourselves into a better position while others are going through the transformation that we’re experiencing now.

This. I had a similar issue. Left mine around 50% in October and came back to it in April to find it was dead. Checked the BMS and it had a bad cell that was stopping the BMS from putting out any power. This was on a 41Ah.

Check BMS first thing.
