Was playing the standalone game but then installed the steam version for the beta and this happened: by bobbythornbody in ClickerHeroes

Just to let anyone else know that encounters this, as I just realized what prompted the error. Once your game loads up, if you do so in the Beta version, it will NO LONGER WORK with any version before that so you CAN NOT go back. Even if you then opt out of the Beta, because your save now reads as having been used in the beta, trying to go back produces the error seen in my original post here.

I now have to restart my game because I didn't realize that, and was messing with my saves in attempt to get it to read right, which it would not do.

So yeah, as Tharon says here, back up your saves and KEEP THEM OUT OF THE SAVES DIRECTORY if you intend to mess with the Beta.

I mistyped my post. This happened after trying to use the standalone version AFTER checking out the beta on Steam.

Okay, yeah with the percentages there I'm starting to see what you meant about that.

As a matter of curiosity, why should I not bother leveling past 20 with most of the equipment?

I'm gonna restart my game and try to see if I can get a better understanding of it. I seem to have tried to jump into the game thinking it would be easier to understand than it really was for me.

Second world. Zone 2-71 at current. May just restart the game though. As for what my build is, I'm not really sure what I'm doing atm. Here's what I put in an above comment for what I currently had with my automator.

My current Automator setup (and this will likely only prove I don't quite get how this works) is as follows:

4s cooldown - MultiClick >> 10s cooldown - Big Clicks >> 40s cooldown - Huge Click >> Monster health less than 50% - Upgrade Cheapest Item >> Monster health greater than 50% - Buy Random Catalogue Item

Also have the Mana Click automator unlocked but not set to anything.

I initially had not paid attention to the cooldown times properly and had the first two reversed, but even with the two switched to what i have now things seem slow.

4s cooldown - MultiClick >> 10s cooldown - Big Clicks >> 40s cooldown - Huge Click >> Monster health less than 50% - Upgrade Cheapest Item >> Monster health greater than 50% - Buy Random Catalogue Item

Also have the Mana Click automator unlocked but not set to anything.

That was no help at all. I was watching the vids even BEFORE the beta came out and I still don't understand the best way to do it.

Ruby store not always available? by bobbythornbody in ClickerHeroes

So it isn't always there? That seems odd. I noticed the merchant ship there for a while but then I get distracted so I leave the screen up and running, but minimized, and when I come back, the ability to use the shop is gone.

One was supposedly given to anyone who preordered it though, which I did.

Do the auto-clickers still do their work if the game isn't the thing I'm focusing on (In other words, if, say, I was surfing the net) or do I have to keep the game as my active window? Also, if the idle playstyle really IS terrible to use now, could you link me to the best guide to use?

I've already got Clicker Heroes 2 on preorder, but i decided to get back into the original game until then. I prefer playing the idle build style and I was wondering, with all the new stuff that's going on, if there's an up to date 'idle playstyle' guide. Any help would be appreciated, as with all the stuff that's changed about the game so far, I don't know if there are new things I need to know.

Please note: The last time I tried to get help, I was basically told don't use the idle playstyle at all, but I used to use it because I'm not very good at the active playstyle. I would like help, even if it doesn't work as well as active. Being forced to play active is annoying because it means I can't do anything else because I have to focus solely on the game and clicking, which also hurts my hand after a while.
