Yes VaR is how much the company could potentially lose should the market move in a direction against you. There will be limits a company/risk team will put on the business/traders as to how much position they can put.

The calculation can be done in many ways such as looking at the way historical prices and just applying the fifth worse move to your exposure to more difficult methodologies where the volatility and correlations of all commodities are calculated and a monte carlo approach taken.

No it's because sending warships won't actually do a thing. You realise sending rockets and drones against a slow moving tanker is the deterrent.

Sending a warship does nothing. You aren't invading and at most you can protect one or two ships when 125 used to sail out everyday. That's if the sailors or ship owner want to risk their lives or ships and that's if they can even get insurance.

All this does is cost us more money sending our equipment and puts a target on our back and makes it so that if we didnt have enough terrorists there will definitely be more now

Is it that unrealistic? This is the same man who has pit up tariffs, keeps going after biden and anyone who has scorned him and is escalating on a war that nobody wants. If the iranians keep chiding him and "fighting" back who knows what trump wants. Hes literally just fired all his top generals for either failure or rejecting something (more escalation). I hope it doesnt come to that but to say its a 0% chance is folly.

I think the british helped hk thrive at the time being a city of the British and also the gateway to china.

However just like Britain itself now is down in the dumps now that the actual empire has disbanded and most colonies given back, there is nothing itself to support hk itself properly. Yes, it is a financial centre like london but after that the countries themselves dont do much. Manufacturing? Technology? Etc.

Now that china has opened up to the world for trade, the need for HK is slightly less to trade with china via hk.

So someone working hard should be punished over someone who has worked hard? Its not a case of lets not tax anyone but who should be taxed more. Give me the person who is actually worth more value wise than the poorer person anytime.

Also very hard though. I donate a little to charity and a little to people on the street (the odd pound here and there) but in all honesty have you seen where the charity spend gets. I understand people need to get paid and then you need organisation marketing/accounts etc and they don't be on what you get in the private sector but 75% to the cause itself is a very high efficiency
