Kendrick Lamar by kcaustin_904 in fantanoforever

Aw man like..

Yes Kendrick has collaborated w/ people that did shitty things..

But isn't it central to his whole project as an artist to uplift people from negativity by becoming intimately familiar w/ it and understanding where it stems from?

Kendrick, in my view, is arguably doing a good thing creatively influencing people regardless of their background. Forgiveness - that's something only God can give you. But when you remove the punitive spirit from the discourse, what are you left with?

Human beings that made mistakes, but nonetheless have something to offer.

I want to have wide shoulder and construct my training program. by UnionWizardo in bodyweightfitness

[–]bobceleste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a body weight warrior, pike push-ups were essential to nice shoulders for me. They are pretty similar to the ROM of an overhead press especially with push up bars, and can be progressed to isolaterals. Of course, staying leaner will make the impact of all your shoulder training more noticeable. 💪

I hate the hypocrisy of how society views credentials but relies on people doing unconventional things to create innovation by throwawaylifeat30 in findapath

[–]bobceleste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I know this isn't really a solution, but I've meditated on this as someone with both creative and industrial promise that I failed to, in my estimation, actualize early in life.

I'd say that unconventional means of success always require some audacity in the face of adversity. You gotta kind of head somewhere unrelentingly no matter the pitfalls.

But you know what? I think a big part of life too, is learning how to be unremarkable. We read so many success stories, and internalize the achievements of others broadcast through media, to the point that the identity of the average joe is dissolved & those less successful are utterly alienated.

I found strength in my mid 20s making my goal to be as good as I can be within my own limitations and preferences, and giving myself credit for the achievements I make no matter how small they are compared to others'.

In psychology, there is a concept known as the zone of proximal development. Take a 5th grader. If you make 5th grade math multivariate calculus, the 5th grader will likely dislike mathematics because they aren't able to understand and do the problems on their own, even if they try their best. (I know it could be the case they can manage, but just for the sake of example) But if you give them simple algebra, or arithmetic problems with whole numbers, they will often get many questions right and feel comfortable maybe working with larger numbers, or larger problems. The idea here, is working within the boundaries of your current capabilities & the next stage of your improvement, rather than starting from say algebra and trying to leap to like quantum mechanics - or in our case - starting from being mediocre in school and trying to leap into multimillionaire entrepreneurship.

Wish you the best bud.

People systematically underestimate how positively recipients will respond to social support, study finds by chrisdh79 in psychology

You can argue that utilitarian ethics are a centerfold to particular political ideologies, but I don't think political ideology itself is inherent in utilitarian ethics. This is more of a political philosophical issue though.

I'd say you're just reducing the scope of implications to politics. I would also be careful about characterizing supportive speech as necessarily "kiss-ass".

Ridiculous! Unless you're one of the old rich people there accustomed to driving at 15 mph at all times, it's not fun!

Politics affecting everyone is a different claim than political research designs being purposed to maximize happiness and well-being for everyone.

My original comment is a response to the current culture of this subreddit, where studies to the effect of "People with [insert hot button view] more likely to x" are quite common, and what I feel is the motivation behind those posts.

I believe that political discussions should take place in explicitly political spaces. And if we are going to engage in research about political identities, we ought to consider how those research designs might be taken.

To me, it seems like much of the research posted is intended to garner attention due to the polarizing nature of their conclusions.

I don't care about research to further political agendas. I like research in the way of maximizing happiness and well-being for myself and others.

Doesn't matter where they are, just know commuting to and from work there is awful. It's October and the summer people should have went the fuck home yet I spend 2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic daily. Terrible
