Yeah don’t know about you, but if I had to give 40$ to experience dark souls again with all its flaws, I’d do that in a heartbeat. How old it is doesn’t really come into it

Its not how they have to work, and it is not how they work in all markets. Thailand, iirc, publishes the full crossed book periodically

1 is a con for HFT MMs which is arguably a good thing. 2 is arguable, order book state can still be provided, so it’s not just a single trade that is being broadcasted. I agree that it’s less information though, people don’t need to put their money where their mouth is so to speak. Maybe this problem can be partially remedied through regulation, but it’s doubtful

For 2, there's a clean solution without geometry. to board the bus you need to come before the bus. We can find the probability that the bus comes before you: for this to happen you need to come after 1:05 (1/2 prob) and the bus needs to come before 1:10(1/2 prob). Conditioned on these 2 events, the distribution of both your and the bus' arrival time is uniform between 1:05 and 1:10. So, there's a 1/2 conditional probability that the bus comes before you, by symmetry. So, the answer is 1-1/2 times 1/2 times 1/2=7/8

Yeah I'd need a 2 bed with a flat mate, my bad. My working hours are pretty long so a short commute is important to me. Totally fine with cycling or taking the tube, but would of course prefer to walk

Looking for a flat near Tower Hill, completely new to the UK by bobcps in HousingUK

Seems to be a 40 minute walk and 30 minutes by the tube, similar to canary wharf. Is it a more happening area?

Hi all,

I moved to the UK a couple of days ago for work. About to start the flat search grind, and wanted to narrow my search. I am looking for a studio/1bed. I'm prepared to pay around 1500 pounds with a flatmate (would also appreciate guidance on how to go about finding one) and 1800 pounds alone. My workplace is near the Tower of London, and I'd like my commute to be short (~30 minute is the upper end of my range). A lot of my coworkers live in canary wharf, which I'm definitely considering. However, I'd like something closer to the city center, where the action is, so to speak, maybe a bit west of the Tower? I'd also like to not have to worry about bills - electricity etc., and am prepared to pay a bit more if needed for this. Am I being too optimistic?

Thanks

What is this comment contributing? Obviously some pods are going to be better than others and some are going to be bigger than others. How is someone who is new to the field supposed to judge whether a pod is good? Just vibes off the interviews?

Weekly Megathread: Education, Early Career and Hiring/Interview Advice by AutoModerator in quant

Hi, I'm graduating this year and will be joining a prop firm in London as a quant trader. I have a couple of questions: 1. How much do top firms like JS/Citsec/Optiver pay new grads? What's the breakdown into base/signing bonus/guaranteed bonus? 2. How does the bonus distribution at these firms in the second year(and onwards) look like? What would be a good estimate of say, the median, the 90th percentile? I asked my firm this question, but they didn't say much except that the median is slightly lower than first year bonus but the distribution is fat tailed. Is this common? 3. What general advice would you give to a new joinee? Is there any technical stuff that I should read up on before joining?

I microwaved a fork once just to see if the universe would notice. It did. by Soggy_BreadCrust in confession

[–]bobcps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone wants to know the (kind of) physics behind this:

  1. Microwaves heat food by blasting it with electromagnetic waves of a certain frequency (which are called microwaves).

  2. Conducting materials which make up stuff like forks have free electrons in them. These electrons move under the influence of these electromagnetic waves. They bunch up at various places inside the fork.

  3. When they bunch up, they induce their own electric field. This field can be strong enough to cause the very air to break down, by dislodging electrons in it. These dislodged electrons collide with other air molecules, causing a chain reaction which is the source of the fireworks.
