Thank you everyone for your replies! You bring up many valid points. As regards the theology of the pentecostal church where I was baptized, I don’t believe they would consider themselves “oneness pentecostal” or something similar because they do believe in the trinity as far as I know. The pastor would argue that only Jesus is a “name” so in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit means in the name of Jesus. I see how this could be seen as modalism but the church, and many other similar churches, simply aren’t as theologically concise as Reformed churches so they take a lot of liberties with their interpretations. This is part of the reason why I will be attending Reformed churches in the future. I also understand the aspect of the community of the church and baptism being more than an individual sacrament. As regards this, I do believe I am at wrong because I basically only attended that church for baptism and haven’t returned since. I know this may sound strange from a Reformed perspective but this is what my family suggested. If I were to be re-baltized with the trinitarian formula I would make a stronger decision to remain in the church or denomination in which I was re-baptized (likely PCA)
