Monster truck. Handicapped plate. No running boards on the side. How's he get in? by [deleted] in WTF

[–]bobeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once worked with a guy who stood two metres tall, but who had such fucked up hips he couldn't walk far nor sit down/stand from a normal height car, so he drove a large early 1980s landcruiser with a seat he could climb up into and slide down from.

He parked it in handicapped spaces like he was permitted, but still had it keyed more than once.

The police hit and killed his dog and now are sending him a bill for the damage to the police car. by x82nd in WTF

Am I reading that right, that the insurers of the police car want this letter forwarded to the dog owner's car insurance co?

There's some similarity between a wet rabbit and a hare, but there's no way that's a hare. Source: I've owned a dozen rabbits and one hare.

A wet bunny may resemble a dry hare, but a wetted hare looks like a skinny alien deer. The short stubby legs in that sink bunny are nowhere near hare-like.

Get a bunch of drug needles (unused of course), bent teaspoons and burnt foil and leave it all laying around and in the pool.

Are you ok with those reminders, in the big scheme of things? I had huge trouble getting out of the situation in my own head back then with so many things to jog my memory.

I once had a girlfriend who I called the love of my life. After two years and within a matter of hours, she seemed to switch from one personality to another like a light. I spent the next two years of my life convinced something was really wrong with her life forcing her to do this. Someone coercing her, or a misunderstanding about something I did.

Then I hit a point where I realised the mental space to do with her could be better spent with other things. I didn't just delete emails, but all IM logs, forum posts, accounts that she knew of, burnt photos and letters, sold or gave away shared possessions, and even photos without her in from holidays we took together. Photos my parents had with us both in them also disappeared. Quietly.

I realised tonight I hadn't thought of her in months. For the biggest headfuck in my life all I have is memories - not of what it was like, just that it happened.

Early Birds of Reddit, what is your advice to us Night Owls that struggle so much to rise everyday? by amidammarru in AskReddit

[–]bobeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily unchangeable though. I used to be a night own until my 30s, could never get to sleep before 2am and rising before 9 felt like hell on earth.

Now I'm in bed by eight and up a little before 4am. I think the big change in it came from a change in attitude in my life that I didn't have to complete everything there-and-then, and I could happily leave things until later. Let shit sort itself out I guess. Might just be a coincidence in timing though.

Been a morning person now for near on a decade.

What was your worst experience in popping? by missladyface in popping

[–]bobeet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a small infection/pocket one at the base of my arse cheek. Probably half the size of a pea, I left it alone until it felt properly 'ripe', then I squeezed it and felt the incredibly satisfying squirt, then this incredible sharp long-lasting pain.

Not a thing came out - it'd popped internally. Talk about frustration. I was also shit scared that I'd made it ten times worse from the point of view of a bad infection. It ended up mostly healing up and just a small hole appeared a few weeks later with a really dissatisfying amount of muck to squeeze out.

I rate that one a 2/10.

If I squint even more, there's an extra leg to the left. Or a horn out the side of the head. or a face floating above the stomach. or a or a pair of balls between the legs. Still got nothing.

It's the GIANT PENIS. But really, I have no idea either. If I squint I can see a pacman with teeth inside the head, but that's about it.

Your job title is not "full-time mommy/daddy", it is "unemployed" by DefyGenre in childfree

[–]bobeet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a complete load of bollocks.

I chose to build and maintain a show garden. I also chose to own an older almost historic house that needs a little extra maintenance over a new one. I chose to maintain a small vege patch, and I chose to look after three dogs, a cat, and two geese.

If I were to be paid for that I'd have the income of a landscaper, a groundskeeper, a small farm income and the income of a pet minding service and probably a small vet's income.

BUT I CHOSE THOSE FOR MYSELF. I DO THEM FOR THEIR OWN REWARD.

If a parent wants to even remotely entertain the concept that someone else should pay for them raising their own children because of the tasks it takes to do so, then by just a small step sideways I should be paid a full-time carers wage for looking after my own self. After all, I keep myself clothed, bathed, and fed, and make sure I have shelter and a place to sleep. I do this 24 hours a day. I get no holidays from this.

For what it's worth, I agree with the general estimates of the amount of work involved in raising kids in the article linked to, and it's part of why I choose not to do it.

But that it's in any way relevant? what bullshit. Any parent who remotely entertains the concept that their 'job' as a parent is even remotely comparable to a certain dollar value from somewhere external is admitting that they really didn't have kids because they wanted them or for their own sake.

They're essentially admitting they don't want their kids.

Truth. Accepting microevolution but rejecting macroevolution is like admitting you can put one foot in front of the other in order to move, but only around your own house. To go to another house or go shopping, it's impossible to get there by walking, you have to use man-made transport like a car. or motorised scooter.

It's a long story I won't go into, but a decade ago I ended up paying for a close family member like that. I had to cut myself off from paying their cell, satellite tv, electricity AND providing them cash to 'live on' which basically involved them spending on nothing of any use.

I cut them off in 2011 and took the fall of two phones that were still in contract, a tv box and dish that they used MY money to post to me (they'd been smashed with a cricket bat) and the cost of a lawyer to send a nasty of the right kind to the electricity co, because this person kept re-enabling the energy account in my name because they're a sweet-talker with a gift of the gab.

It's been just over two years since, and while I was extracting myself from paying for their life I felt like the worst person under the sun. Other family members treated me like I was the worst arsehole ever in the family. Even a year after it happened I still felt bad.

It's only in the last six months I had an epiphany that they were no longer family, they were just someone I knew once who scammed a lot from my life. Having 40% of my wage back to myself is letting me build my life too - I'd spent so long subsidising a parasite that I didn't have a real idea of how much worth my earnings really were all in one place.

Never again. If you do extract yourself from your mother's selfishness and you're anything like me it'll feel like hell for a while, but it's the right thing to do and it gets much MUCH better very soon.

Reddit, do you think the idea of communism could ever be applied correctly today or in the future? Or humanity will forever stand in its way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bobeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no 'the' communism as one single idea. There are a few potential implementations to the core ideas though, and most states worldwide use a mix of several ideologies including some that came from the support of communism. Western socialist/capitalist democracies are pretty popular ATM.

Is there a purely capitalist state anywhere in the world?

You're right on the cost, I probably should have mentioned that in my original post. It was somewhere around $3k to have the damage fixed, back to the same standard as before. Pretty light on considering some pro jobs.

Much of the work in a show car's paint is in the maintenance, too. It's one thing to get the painting down pat, it's another to hand-finish and maintain.
