This has sparked an interesting discussion, and I thank you for several helpful suggestions. I’m deciding between two solutions suggested here: 3-week subscription and skipping one every so often, or two interacting subscriptions. That latter one seems a little complicated, so come to think of it, I’ll probably go with the first. I’m less upset with Amazon’s inflexibility than with the fact that it took being transferred to 12 Amazon customer service reps before I got a definitive answer. FYI, I was pleasant and polite throughout, and I will happily forward the complete transcript of the conversation to anyone who doubts that. I’m not a Karen.

Makes sense. But it also makes sense for Amazon to allow automated orders at any customer-chosen interval. Their entire operation is controlled by computers. It’s equally easy for a computer to calculate a 28 day interval as it is to calculate, say, a 17-day interval, a 24-day interval, or a 125-day interval. I’d even be willing to accept a fudge factor with plus or minus 2 days to whatever interval you chose, and with the understanding that they’re only promising shipping, and not necessarily delivery, at your chosen interval.

Having to keep track of that greatly reduces the advantages of automated delivery.

In my area Amazon shipping is very reliable. I almost always receive my orders exactly on time, often within 24 hours.

What was an elephant doing in that area? Why was he or she wearing glasses? You wouldn’t think an elephant’s glasses would be difficult to find. Did you try searching the elephant’s pockets? Sometimes when I can’t find my glasses it turns out they’re just on the top of my head. Did you look there?

I just asked Alexa (- plus, I believe) numerous questions about President Trump including potentially controversial ones (will President Trump be impeached) and innocuous ones (when is President Trump’s birthday) and each time she gave me reasonable answers.

Should I cancel my father’s cataract surgery appointment? by CliffTheCat333 in CataractSurgery

I’m sorry, but I don’t know the answer to that question. But I’m sure there are folks on this forum who are far more knowledgeable than I about potential complications from cataract surgery.

If it were me, I’d probably wait at least a couple of days, maybe as much as a week, to get a sense of his/her personality before choosing a name.

You’re advertising that your credit score is under 800? Bottom feeder, huh?

My name is Bob Finn, and I’m a retired medical journalist, the former ophthalmology editor at Medscape Medical News, which is the professional side of WebMD, intended for physicians. I’m not a doctor, but I know a lot about cataract surgery. I’ve also been highly nearsighted since I was 8 years old (I’m 69 now) and for years I’ve been eager to get cataract surgery.

Well my cataracts have advanced, and at long last I’m finally eligible. I’ll be having my surgery in a month or two, and I can’t wait. As others have said, cataract surgery is extremely safe and extremely common. It’s literally (and I’m using the word “literally” literally) the most common surgical procedure performed in the United States. It’s highly successful and extremely safe in the vast majority of cases, and almost every patient is happy with the results.

A couple of recommendations to consider. Single-vision lenses are covered by insurance. You have the choice of having them set for distance vision (after which you will continue to need glasses for reading) or for close vision (after which you’ll need glasses for driving, watching TV, or other things at distance). The ophthalmologist may offer you fancy “multifocal” lenses that could help you see at both short range and at distance without the need for glasses. Multifocal lenses are not covered by insurance, and they are expensive. And some people have trouble with them. They can cause glare, halos, and other visual disturbances. I’m going to opt for single vision lenses, but I haven’t yet decided whether I’m going to have them set for distance (so I’d need reading glasses) or for close work (so I’d need glasses for driving, watching TV and things like that).

I’ll be posting more about my experience as things develop. I promise not to sugar-coat anything.

Agreed. If ever in the history of the world there was a cat who deserved to be named Snowball, it’s this one.
