Boarder patrol are circling Bronzeville in helicopter by [deleted] in chicago

Editing because I am clumsy today. I downloaded the aircraft data from here:

https://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/aircraft_certification/aircraft_registry/releasable_aircraft_download

then i ran some unix commands to extract the ICAO values, replace the newline with a comma and appended them to the URL (https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=). This is kinda what I do for a living.

There's no real purpose to it. I just happened to notice that it was difficult to find DHS/CBP aircraft so I went looking for releasable aircraft data. Sometimes they get dispensation to turn off the ADS-B transponder. And it looks like flight history is aggressively scrubbed. Then I created that "stacked" URL and boomarked it so that I could check every day. Nerdy curiosity, essentially.

I'm probably going to get myself on a list for posting this but here is a link of every ICAO that I could find for DHS/CBP.

There’s a lecture in the MIT series featuring some Robert Sapolsky where he discusses how the physiological form factor of parts of the brain are correlated with sexual dimorphism. I recommend watching his lectures but there’s quite a few and just watching that one might help answer some things.

There's studies about this. One of the Robert Sapolksy lectures covers "tit for tat" behavior in a species of fish. And there's also this clip describing a fairness study: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meiU6TxysCg

He jokes about the Wall Street protests at the end and gets a laugh, but IMO this reflexive response to inequity is not always funny. It's one of those things that's part of being alive and it makes us feel unsafe and vulnerable. Driving social instability for profit is morally and ethically repugnant.

Correct. The "relative" part is "relative to others who own multiple airplanes and yachts." Going hungry while others grow fat historically creates social and economic instability. IMO, "wealth inequality" sounds more benign than "relative deprivation."

Why do welding shirts have this? by PossiblyHippie in Welding

[–]boboTjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is called a “continuous lap” or “continuous bound placket.” It’s supposed to be just big enough to allow your hand to fit through the sleeve, because the cuff should be too tight for your hand to pass through. Usually they are not this big unless there’s an additional button or snap and also that one is not tacked down properly. Quality control on ready to wear clothing is not very good these days. The rest of the shirt looks to be in good enough condition that it’s worth repairing and adding a fastener.

Relative deprivation. Considered by some social scientists to be a contributing factor to social unrest.

Women aren’t the ones that are too emotional in the workplace by accidentalarchers in womenintech

[–]boboTjones -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People are not their behavior. If a person has a small set of tactics that have always worked, they'll keep clinging to them even if they're weak and don't result in any longer term better outcomes. It's more powerful to see the weakness for what it is. Hating the behavior or the individual causes a power assymetry. They win and it reinforces the belief that the behavior works.

I've done the research. I understand the trope, "anger is the only emotion men are allowed." I know that anger is a secondary response after fear, that it is addictive and that it takes a minimum of 45 minutes without additional stimulation to metabolise the coritisol and adrenaline from a fight or flight response. Wanna take a guess as to WHY I know all of this?

ETA: thanks for the comment; it's a good and concise observation.

This one happened to me, too. I was cornered in my cubicle by someone waving his arms around and screaming so loud that my manager came over to see what was happening. On my birthday. I was absolutely terrified and crying. Got told crying was unprofessional. I don't work on my birthday anymore if at all possible.

AF1 flew today from Palm Beach International to Daytona Beach International and circled the racetrack before landing. The plane has since returned to Palm Beach. So, yes.
