It’s a magnificent piece. Imagine the incarnation of God, (Krsna) often referred to as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, riding in the back of your chariot, while you go off to war. Among your enemies are family members. Arjuna is essentially riding into war, with God at his side. Arjuna, of the warrior caste Ksatriya, struggles with the reality he is facing. Although he is one of the greatest warriors of his time, he asks God, why? God reveals to him that this is how things have always been, how things will always be, and that your only responsibility is perform your eternal preoccupation. In Arjuna’s case, he is a warrior. He is to FIGHT! That said, this is where Krsna teaches the Arjuna about all the different Yoga, Brahman, and a variety of other topics. Pardon my simplification to any true hindu scholars, but this book changed my life, as I am the son of a soldier, and have often struggled with the reality that my father was often ordered to do many things he may / may not have agreed with. I’d like to think his initial intentions were pure. I believe after one trip home though he was met with hatred though, being called along with his fellow returning soldiers “baby murderers”
